There has probably been many a thread about this pre my short time on here but what is the best course you have ever played and why?

Mine would have to be TPC Sawgrass in Jacksonville, Florida. Reasons?
Course condition was like nothing I have ever seen, fairways were immaculate and greens were like the proverbial billiard table smooth.
Weather was just fantastic for the 5 days we were there
Difficulty. This was a real test, I don't normally lose many balls but lost a few here (lots of water)
Facilities, the practice ground alone was better than my home course :D, the range was clearly kitted out with pro's in mind (Pro v1's and actual turf "mats")
Experience, very attentive staff and the Marriott hotel was just amazing.

To cap it all, we got the weeks stay and play (5 nights, 4 rounds) for under £800 (not including flights but still!!!)

We did this to celebrate my best mate's 30th and we're looking to do it all again for my 35th (in 18 months time :)).

What's yours?

this was the best away day for me last summer. such a course. we played it in perfect conditions. no wind and sun splitting the stones. im sure it can play alot harder than it it that day. cant wait to go back. you have to buy shares at £17,000 to become a member apparently. im saving up :rofl:

Easy.

TPC Snoqualmie Ridge, just outside of Seattle.

This picture will show you why;

Looks stunning Aztecs. The thing I liked at Sawgrass was on the 5th tee a quick glance to your left and you were looking out over a clear blue ocean. Not like a day at Gullane No.1... Lol

It really is an incredible course. Always in immaculate condition. And you're treated like royalty from start to finish. Helps if you know members too, coz you get to go into the Members locker rooms (Which are ridiculous!)

Must be a TPC thing. Treated like royalty is exactly the experience I meant. Nothing was too much trouble. We did the PGA Professional Tour at Sawgrass and went round the lockers and the PGA ante-room and dining room - oh how the other half live... :D

Indeed. I'd love to play a course like Sawgrass just for the history.

The Champion's Tour stops at Snoqualmie Ridge, but it doesn't have the prestige of somewhere like Sawgrass.

The thing I love about it is that it's not your typical american course. It's like a parkland course, on a mountain, on steroids.

how much are we talking for a round here? looks amazing !

Just shy of $100 - and that's as a member's guest as it's a private club.

Luckily the people we played with have more money than sense and didn't let us pay a penny. It's worth every single penny of that though! I would happily pay that amount to play again. Plus you get free pyramid of balls on the practice ground, free buggy, club cleaning, the works.

Hoping to play here next time I go back:

site of the 2015 US Open. Supposed to be absolutely incredible. I fear it may have been priced out of my range since getting the go ahead for the 2015 open - it's only been open a few years and it's hosting a major already - which tells you how good it is.

Not the fanciest course I've ever played, but Gullane #2 is my favourite.

Suppose it's how you rate 'best'. Muirfield or St. Andrews will rate higher than Gullane, Archerfield and Renaissance are fancier and pricier, but I like a course with an earthy soul, so Gullane for me.

Played Aloha a few times, and will enjoy watching the pro's play it this week.

No.2 is a great course Adi so I get you (except that hill on the 3rd... that kills me). No.1 is my favourite at Gullane, then 2 and 3 last but that's only because 3 is so short.

i was thinking Gullane 2, or Dunbar, but I think I'm gonna go with North Berwick west links - roll on next weekend tho - maybe the Kintyre or Ailsa will be better! :whoo:

Aye,most people prefer #1, dunno why I like #2 more.#3 is a tough course, I think they let the rough grow a wee bit higher there to compensate for the length.

Yeah, I just like no.1 as I love the 7th through to the 12th, the views are amazing and the course is just naturally brilliant.
No.3 has had the rough trimmed back lately but it's still a challenge, it's just over too quickly...
