Im just wondering what will i be better using?

I dont have a handicap but my average on my local i would say is probably 88-90.

Steer clear of blades off your handicap. 18 handicaps and blades are not a good mix unless you are a fantastic ball striker (and hence must be a rubbish putter).

Get a set of second hand Cally X20s or similar, these will be a much better bet.

No, when you think about it, air offers less resistance than grass, so more air time = more distance.

A lower flight will offer more control in high winds, but not much else. It will also tend to take more side spin though, as the back spin becomes less dominant, so slicing (or hokking) can be more of a problem.

If you can't get a set of X20s or similar, I would definately stick with what you have. The reason blades are often cheap is that the market for them is comparatively small. Only good ball strikers, often off low single figure h/caps can use them. There aren't many of these, so 2nd hand prices will be low.

X20s, or older Cally like X16s, or TM R7s are a good bet for mid h/caps, but not blades.

What's your budget? A lot of manufactures are releasing new irons onto the market and consequently the golf stores are selling them off at quite reasonable prices.

The Mizuno MX25's are a nice set, as are the old 900s, and I would have thought would offer the right amount of forgiveness without looking like a shovel. As already mentioned the Cally X20 or X18 could be good. Ping G5s are a really good set of irons.

Secondhand or new I think all the above would be good value. As always, try before you buy.

Nothing wrong with slazenger, Im using some now and they are fine till i get my new set, I payed off 9 when I got them and still play off 9 comfortably, so they must be fine.

I have a set of hippo irons too that I use often, both sets of irons cost less than 170 quid togeather.

Anyway, if you are not a consistantly good ball striker, keep away from bladed clubs. I had a set in the days I played my best golf but I was striking the ball a hell of a lot better then, now I wouldnt dream of having a set.

If you go for blades your average will go to 90 to 100 lol.

Stick with the clubs you have till you get a better game or feel about the game, or buy second hand or bargain stuff from reputable golf sites is my view, if you have money to throw about, fill yer boots.

I reckon if you do some searching on t'interweb or at your big golfing outlets there will be something in your budget. I use to have a set of X14's and only got rid to change up to a more modern club (X20) and if you can find a set of X14's I'd recommend them.

Basically you will need some sort of forgiveness because your average score indicates that you do not strike the ball well all of the time. A cavity back will get the ball in the air which will give you better carry and will also give you better distance on those occasions where it doesn't quite come out of the centre. I would say unless you are 10 or under steer clear of blades. There are some on here with higher handicaps than 10 who use blades or tour versions (X20 tours etc) but in general terms it isn't recommended. At the end of the day it is down to personal preference but I think you will get better use out of a cavity back
