I drove past the best car I ever had today and wow that brought back memories! A stunning Alfa Romeo Alfasud Quadrifoglio.

Since then I had several nice cars and some of them would be considered much better (M3, 911, Z4) on the paper but nothing was like that. Maybe because I was younger at the time...

So I was wondering if you had felt anything similar for a car you had in the past (or present).

HID and I really enjoyed a drive out in a Lotus Elise that we had for 3 to 4 years

The biggest problem for me was getting in the thing - it was like trying to get into a letter box!

Classic shape Subaru Impreza. A hoot to drive and always regretted selling it (would not be fun filling at todays prices)

Old Audi coupe, 2.2GT. I had it lowered (alot) and stiffened. It would corner like it was on rails. Comfy too, best seats I have had in any car I have driven (did 50k private miles in it one year). Decent boot for the golf clubs. 0-60 about 8 seconds, which was pretty good for 136 bhp. Next up would have been an engine upgrade to 200 bhp, but I wrote it off coming out of a pub car park, otherwise I would still have it now.

The best car I have ever had is the one I have now. The new 5 Series Touring. I have had more expensive cars, faster cars and cooler cars than this but none as good. It is basically excellent at everything and is full of superb engineering and technology. I highly recommend it and I never thought I would ever own a BMW, never mind think this of one!

That said, it is not the favourite car I have ever had. That accolade goes to my Land Rover Defender! She is a beat up 110 pick-up with all the usual Landy foibles but whenever I get in, a smile comes to my face. Definitely my favourite car I have ever owned.... It's my children's favourite too. They love it.

my current car, a Clio RS197. Its only my third car but I love the little thing. Ok its not the fastest or most flash but show it some B roads and there isnt many better...

I've got to agree Snelly. I would utterly love a 110 Defender. Proper old school cool.

Most fun car I had was the Toyota Mr2 Twin Turbo T-top, bit of a hairdressers car but man was it fun!
My current car is the best car I've owned, a standard Ford Mondeo, cannot fault her. Loads of room for clubs, can get 3 people plus golf gear in there comfortably...and does 55-60MPG if I'm careful.

Think it was most likely. A Volvo P1800 (the saints car). Had it from new sold it with 150'000 on the clock. Never a day of trouble. Most fun car was. A Lotus7 in the days when they came with the wheels not on to avoid purchase tax.

My current Alfa which I have had over 13 years now. I did have a Rover 220 GTI Turbo which was fun to drive, and very quick. When I was a lot younger I did have a Capri, which was great for throwing the golf clubs in the back, and the extra weight helped stop the back end flicking out.:)

My Skoda Fabia Vrs of a few years ago, the older diesel one not the recent one. Very quick with a 1.9 TD engine in a car that size it would surprise many people as you dissapeared in a cloud of black diesel smoke, and it was economical too. A definate wolf in sheeps clothing. Skoda dropped a major clanger imho by making the new one a petrol. The Mini CooperS I had runs it a close second though, loved the supercharger whine and the way it cornered.

Most fun would be this one:

Terrible picture, but a beast of a car. Basically a SEAT Leon FR underneath, but with the understated Toledo shape. I didn't appreciate just how rapid it was until I swapped it for my Mondeo. Not only was it quick, but even driving the chuff out of it, I would still average over 50mpg. I love my Mondeo to bits as it's so comfortable to drive and looks great, but it drinks diesel pretty quickly unless you drive exactly 70mph and it's not nearly as "fun". Handles ALOT better than the Toledo though but I do miss driving the Toledo greatly. :(

Would probably have been even quicker if it didn't have all that mud to carry Jon, and they say that silver cars don't show the dirt.:D

Currently drive a SLK55 AMG.....so comfy yet its like rolling on thunder.
But best car overall I would say would be the Mitsu Evolution Tommi Makkinen. 500bhp and handles like its on rails.....'nuff said.
Close 2nd would be the Integra Type-R DC5........engine and gearbox is up there with the best of them.

starlet gt turbo for me.

they get a terrible bashing as a boy racers car in the city, but i didnt live anywhere near a city so wasnt tarred with that brush.

loved it.

well over 300 horse per ton :) loved that wee 1300cc engine. often underestimated rarely overtaken.

My current car is the best I've had.
Mark 5 Golf GTI in black, 2 litre, 200 BHP, 0-60 in under 7 seconds.
Most of driving is rural and it is perfect for it!

Aztec, I had a 2004 cupra from new, remapped with REVO, fmic etc went like a train with 220-230 hp bit more torque than the cupra r. The 03-05 SEAT range were fantastic and great value for money. 15.5k got you a new loaded cupra. That would barely get you a quick fiesta these days.

I regret trading her but did get an excellent 4.6 v8 x5 in its place. I've never say in anything so big that takes roundabouts and corners do well. It is the Missus's wagon for all intents and purposes.

My favorite car is my current one though, a 2001 impreza wrx, the noise and grip this car has in all conditions I'd brilliant. There are more expensive marques out there but I wouldn't trade her for the world.... Well I might be tempted with an Evo V or VI :D
