best bags

do you think the people who design bags are really golfers.the bag i have now is old and torn,however a great bag,it has 2 massive pockets on the sides that will fit my shoes,waterproofs,and the rest i need into very easily with lots of room spare,an umbrella compartment,waterproof pockets,howerver the bag itself is not waterproof,it also has 14 club holders which i need.i need a new bag however the ones on the market now dont seem 2 have all i need,has anyone got a bag that has everything us winter golfers want,all the above?

Hi pokerjoke I have in fact over these past few days mulling over what bag to purchase been on the forum for advice but I decided to purchase in fact today the Powakaddy deluxe 2 cart bag from American Golf it has absolutely everything on it,bar the kitchen sink,maybe have a look at it.

I do think that in this day and age of man made materials there would be more choice of bags that were more water repellant (Sun Mountain do one which is suppose to be waterproof) especially carry bags. Most seem to be nylon type constructions and many leak like old tea bags at the first sign of rain.

I think trolley bags are a little more robust but even these aren't brilliant. I'm lucky in that the umbrella holder on my GK keeps a lot of the rain off the clubs without the need to fight my way through the hood which again doesn't really do much of a job. I know it would make them even more expensive, but surely manufacturers could find a way of at least making the zips around pockets more waterproof (flaps over the zip and the lining perhaps) as it seems in my experience that is where alot of water seems to soak in

I tend to waterproof my bags with Silicone Spray. Other than buying a fully waterproof type (if one exists) that's about all you can do.
I have a waterproof pocket which works......thank goodness.

Mosr bags are waterproof,however all the holes made by the stiching arent,in this country they are soon found out.

I disagree that most bags are waterproof. Most carry bags are made of coated nylon to make them light and this does give them some protection from showers and drizzle but if you play a round in continuous (but not necessarily heavy) then they are not waterproof and it isn't just in the zip and linin that water start to seep in.

Over the years I've had Cally, TM, Sun Mountain, Izzo and Mizzy carry bags and none have ever been (although none have claimed to be either) waterproof and all have been found out especially at this time of year. In the end I put my spare gloves in a sandwich bag and spare towels in a carrier bag and so if water seeped in at least they were still dry enough to use.

As Homer mentioned, Sun Mountain do a 100% waterproof carry and trolley bag, the only thing that stopped me buying the trolley one and going for the C-103 was the huge strape on the front (seen below).

You can pick up a cheap rain cover for all bags and I havent had any issues with my C-103 or the wifes Hill Nilly delux bag which is also great. How about the Ogio Edge bag as its a cross between a trolley bag and carry.

Been through 2 Callaway bags in 2 years - first one (Callaway Strike) the material where the hand grip was went and more annoyingly (Callway Warbird) the inside lining went where my driver and 3 wood sat - nice bit of bag rub on the shafts of my driver and 3 wood! Personally, i don't like their strap system so one brand i won't be using in future. Don't know if that helps and it is only my opinion and experience.

I've got the PING Pioneer and I think it's a great bag! It fits superbly on the trolley and the pockets are all accessible. They have designed the bag as an inverted 'V' shape with the strap in the middle of the 'V'. The strap also has a little holder so that when not in use it slips in there and, as a result, doesn't drag along the floor.
Some of the Zips have a waterproof cover (I've yet to test this as I've not played in the rain yet - believe it or not!!!). It holds LOADS of stuff and looks good.

I'd recommend it.....

My first Motocaddy bag that I had only had 13 pockets for clubs and no putter well. How rubbish is that for a design fault?

I have now replaced it with a cheap Hippo cart bag that seems to be perfect. The reason I went with it is because its one of the only reasonably priced bags that has 14 individual pockets that go right down the bag. Ideal for me with extra large grips on my clubs.

Like Parmo, I carry an Argos £4.99 plastic cover. It goes on if my waterproofs go on!! But I have put the motocaddy rain cover on my Santa list ;-)

I agree it's a great bag other than the design of the brolley holder which sits in the rear V and causes a problem when sat on the trolley especially as I have the large 68" Ping brolley.

The bag is no more waterproof than any other trolley bag i've used but is easily sorted with a slip on waterproof rain cover.
