Belly/Broomhandle Putters

We've had this at least twice in the last 3-4 months.
You'll get those on both sides of the fence explaining why you should/shouldn't be allowed to use them.
The only place you're going to get the difinitive answer is from the R&A/USPGA if they decide to look at the rules and make a decision on them.
They're legal, personally I don't agree with that but until that is changed they can be used.
There's very little common ground on this, you're either for or against. Not many sitting on the fence.

I've only had a few swings with a Broomhandle and, to my mind, the amount of practice I would have to put in to reach the standard of putting I have now would be far better spent becoming an even better putter with my shorter club.

never used one. dont think id like it anyway. couldnt care less if someone putted with an actual broom. you still have to read the putt correctly and hit it at the correct pace.

I wouldnt change back to a standard putter unless I was forced to as I've put too much work and time into getting used to a belly putter.

Personally it doesn't bother me. As long as its in the rules fair play, everyone has the option to use them. I would be more interested to see how this has filtered down to the amateur game. I have maybe seen one person playing a belly putter. (Its a given I don't play as much as most people on this forum.) You would of thought that if using a belly putter was so much easier that belly putters would be flying off the shelf, especially how they are becoming a lot more "fashionable". Does anyone on here use one?

I have no problem with them as they are legal. I think they will always gradually filter down into the amateur game as people always want to use what the pros do. I think the biggest issue as to why they are not always in the shops is for us folk they are an expensive thing to try out. Its not like a golf ball at £30 quid a dozen you are talking upto £200 in some cases and to me that would be an expensive trial and thats why I personally wouldnt buy one. I dont think its something you can try and in a few hits be like this is the putter for me, as someone said earliar it will take work to get used to this and get the advantages so its a risky trial for me.

I've used a belly putter for about 18 months and definitely make more putts, and so, for that reason, it's staying!

I made 3 or 4 good putts today in our 4BBB winter league last 16 knock out and the long beauty got me a couple of longish birdie putts and the lag that won the match
