I will always defend the Belfry as I have had only positive experiences of staying and playing there. All the facitilities are great, and whilst the Brabazon isn't the greatest course and has a number of very bland holes, it has always been in excellent condition.

Well according to an awards ceremony in Portugal it is ?!?!

Who the heck decides these awards ?

Its like most of what we see in today's world. You pay (in one way or another) to win awards. Being 'busy' or 'full' says the marketing people have done their job.
Ever heard of "Product of the Year"? - well, that's taken these marketing cons to the max.
Sadly, these days, people fall for it. Google (search) anything and you become another victim of the fakery and BS.

It has become a fact that most of the 'top' of anything are simply not. Until you can find a review or recommendation based on no financial interest, we are all fish to be fried.

I'm not saying the Belfry is bad, but there is little chance it is the "best"...

we published our last top 50 stay and play rankings 2 years ago and will be releasing a new list in a few months - our list is GB&I BTW

Belfry would have been the 5th best in our rankings (was 17th overall) but they have done a lot of work to the hotel/off course since the last rankings so a move upwards could well be on the cards

As an aside I recently played and stayed at Close House - very impressed - think that will be a high new entry in the new list

I just went on your link, looked at the courses then came back to....nothing! Not the first time this has happened and I can't see what I'm typing either???

Cheers for that Mike

How much weight does the hotel carry in regards the ratings ?

I know that Belfy have spent a lot of money improving hotel so would that improve its ranking despite the course staying the same ?

The courses haven't stayed the same. Extensive bunker, drainage, tee and landscape work has been carried out. £600,000 Spent in the last 18 months

not sure why people knock the brabazon ? Your not going to get 18 memorable holes. I don't know a course that has,it's a parkland course in Sutton Coldfield, your not going to get stunning views Stood on every hole..it's a cracking course and it keeps getting better.

Formby Hall in Liverpool is better , Nice course , good range , good par 3 course and the Head pro there is a 1st class guy ............EYG
