Being a busy man these days, sadly i'm having less and less time for golf.

Ive decided to be sensible and buy some more forgiving irons. To cut along story short, i'm too inconsistent with my 'players' irons. so im looking for something a bit more forgiving without having a massive club head and inch long offset only want to pay £400 max so looking for maybe a last season set or a bargain. As long as theyre forged im not too fussed.

Any suggestions appreciated

Cheers

Just got the mizuno MX200's

Great club - probably more forgiving than your current set, looks great and dose not have huge cavity like some clubs also within your range.
Still able to shape shots with these so all in all a very good club!

Enjoy!

I'd invest in a set of MX20's or 23's. They're both EXACTLY what you're after. The MX25's and MX200's are no better and some would say worse. You can pick up a really well looked after set of 20's for about a ton and twice that for 23's.

Stay with Titleists, get a 2nd hand set of 755's or 775's in S300 spec for £130-£150.

Job done.

Personally though, I reckon when you start playing more, the 735CM's will come back to you and make you realise again how good they are.

Nevada Bobs are doing Cally x20's for 299 new, chuck away the sw if they come with one and use something better and Id say you are laughing, even better when its well, welll under £400.

Thanks for the input guys . on the inside i might be heavily contradicting myself and having the shiny new clubs syndrome.

i do like the look of mizuno 200s . jon ur probably right and im worrying too much i do need more playing time.

I looked at Cobra FP (2008) a few weeks back, and half wished I picked up the set and got them C/F.

Trouble was, although they looked good and went well, I couldn't find a MPF rating (Maltby Playabilty Factor).

Tosh and twaddle you may say, but I've found all my past irons on the MPF rating chart and rather "spookily" my last 4 sets have all been classed as "game improvement" and rated between 680-750, i.e. I've bought almost the same forgiveness of iron each time, by chance!!!

I'd like something a bit higher, but no crazy offset or top line. I suspect the Cobra's come in around 600.....
The highest score of any iron is over 1,000. The highest rating for a "pro" or "tour" spec iron is Callaway X-16 pro or X-18 pro.

These are a bit old (though I could get some from Golfbidder) so I'm trying to find out more about X-20 pro series. Needless to say, there are no shortage of Taylor Made "tour" style forgiving clubs.

If I can bear to play a cast club, I reckon the Ping i10/i5 could be the babies for me......but I love forged!!!!

Was I the first to mention the Maltby playability thing on here? What a discovery. When I found my blades were GI irons, it made my day.

Just had a nosey myself

My Titleist 695cbs are a game improvement iron?

When i have got a 5 iron in from 190 on a bare lie i will tell myself

'Not to worry i playing a G.I iron'

I am sure that will help

That said they are not hard to hit though just easy to shank

:)

Even 1,000 isn't going to fix that problem.

I found one of my first sets on the MPF (Mizuno Astron 1993)...not good...no wonder I got another set sharpish.....

I just though I was rubbish when I started.....(actually, Dave, you were!)

Mine come out at 411. But not sure I understand all the tech behind it!! My head hurts. :D

MVP,
I've just played my first round with a second-hand set of Srixon i506's with Nippon shafts. All I can say is they blew me away and will be keeping the Mizuno's out of my bag. They're a players cavity back with great feel. Check 'em out!
