Had a round on my own today - had a bit of spare time. Played the front 9 well, only 3 over gross. Then I got to the turn and had to wait a bit behind a bunch of our senior members. they all let me through with no problem at all - except on every shot I played after being called through I could have been using a bit of 4x2!! Sideways, no-ways,anyways but where it was supposed to go.Just about every other shot was ok. Ended up to handicap when it should really have been 3 o4 better.

"Being called through nerves"???

or just a coincidence???

Nothing worse my friend.
Called through obviously entails someone watching you play.

I try to play as though nobody is there but I know it can be un-nerving. You know the group allowing you through is watching your every move.

Deep breath, take your time and swing as normal. You always have the opportunity to ask them to play if you make a real hash of it.

Yep, being called through can be the kiss of death. But remember next time that the fourball really aren't interested in you or how you play as long as you get out of the way - they're far too wrapped up in their own game and/or discussing last night's match.
Having got to the age of ** I've decided that being self conscious is a form of vanity and it does take the pressure off in all kinds of ways!

If there is not another group behind me, I tend to hang back a couple of shot lengths so they have no pressure to let me through. It makes for a slower round but I can take time to have a practice put or two.

i hate it so much, that although frustrating i often tend to linger and hold back. pathetic, huh?!

i had almost an exact same happening to you. played mid week a few weeks ago. flying on the first 5 holes then spotted an 'old' 3 ball up ahead. next hole par 3. water feature one side, bunker on the other. it's a testing hole. these guys were walking down to the green and i tee'd up quite happy to wait. next thing i know they're standing aside asking me to play through. so i do. hit a beaut of a shot within 3 ft of the cup. putt in for birdie. they say "great shot" and all that sort of stuff. i then relaise i have to tee-off in front of them. i hook it straight in to the trees. i decide i need to play a provisional and preceed to top that. the hole then became a 'mare since i proceeded to rush every shot just to get ahead of them.

really knackered my score card. nightmare. lol.

Been there done that.

Playing the course I am looking to join, 16th hole 200 yard par 3.

Dont have a bat in my bag for that distance, too short for driver, to long for 4 iron.

4 ball in front of me and the B.I.L are just about to tee of as we walk up to the tee. They all hit good straight drives down the middle and then tell us to go, we'll all walk down together and they would let us play through.

B.I.L had the honour and proceded to nail his drive pin high inches off to the left.

I have never felt so much pressure and i still didnt know what club to take.

Went with the driver, i thought just give it 3/4 swing see what happens.

Best drive i hit all day, bounced next to the pin and trickled to the back just off the edge, 7 iron chip and run o within inches and a tap in for par, Then we had to tee off past them.

Again B.I.L nailed his drive and I pulled mine, right at them, I shouted fore left and they all dived for cover, ball dropped next to there feet and as i walked over to it one of them said, its just there pal, right where i was standing.

They were all laughing about it but could of been worse, O well, only harm done was to the card!
