Beer on a course

No difference what so ever. You are drinking whilst playing golf, maybe this is how you justify it because you can't turn alcohol down when offered to you.

Pathetic. If your looking to bait someone dangle your little maggot elsewhere.

Im always driving, so I will have a pint of lager shandy at the 19th and thats that.
If I wasnt driving then I cant see the problem with a couple of tinnies, but anyone who drinks lots of alcohol every time they go out probably has an issue that needs sorting.

I find golf hard enough as it is with out being half cut.

I'm going to be a tad elitist here. I've seen far more beer bottles at pay and play courses than at private clubs. We serve beers at captains day but that aside it's very rare, even in summer to see anyone drinking on the course. Some will stop at the bar (our 10th is outside) but not drink from a can or bottle

Occasionally I have a bottle of poacher choice, hobgoblin or some other ale sat in my bag, only the one mind.

Theres a lad at our course who goes through bottles of Becks at rate I have never seen before!! Its not uncommon to see empty bottles of Becks scattered about in the rough and the bushes! He isn't a great golfer by any means....but always has a smile on his face!!

I have only had a beer once whilst playing and that was on Captains day this year at the halfway hut, it was nice.....but just made me need a pee the whole way round :o

A group of us go away every year. Not unusual to see a bottle of Soplica vodka devoured around the course in every group, as well as various other alcohol stuffs. Only time i'll drink during a round of golf!

Don't drink personally on the course (as I don't full stop) have played with a few who have. Long as they don't go OTT it's fine by me

i personally enjoy a good cigar on the course now and again. I don't smoke normally but couple times a year I'll treat myself

I he is nuts him always red faced!!!!

i 've only had a drink on course a couple of times, in fact one of my best scores was when i was 4 sheets, level par gross off the back tee's at WG.... most of the time, i'm driving though and with the DD limit in Scotland Now a shandy is almost out of the question

Only when playing special occasions, on the old farts v whippersnappers day I took 4 small cans of lager to share with my 4 ball. I really enjoy fun !!! invitation days where there's a bar on the course, and a taxi prearranged
As Patrick said with our lower drink driving limits , you can't drink and drive or even putt sometimes

We had a guy at our club who used to drink 5-6 cans of lager in a round. He once played a match against another club, went in the bar and asked for a half because he was driving.

Drinking beer and trying to play golf perfectly illustrates why Drink Driving should be zero tolerance and 0mg

I have tried a few times, with 1 or 2 and it impacts your
game, tried once with 4 or 5 pints in me, walked off after 2, it was impossible

I think the effect it has depends on your expectations.

If you're off a high handicap then it 1/2 may relax you and you may actually play equally well if not better.

If if you're looking to play closer to scratch then the game management aspect and nerves probably isn't something that needs assistance and the effect of the alcohol will be detrimental to your performance.

Time and place for everything. I've had a few beers on the course during Corporate days. Also on Presidents' Day they have a beer table near the 9th tee. Everyone stops for a few drinks and a chinwag with the ladies. Wouldn't do it during a comp though.

Totally agree. When me and my mates go away for a weekend golf break a few alcoholic drinks are taken on the Saturday during the round. We don't walk round supping from cans of Special brew as we are bit more subtle than that, and none of us has so much that you can't play. But I don't see a problem if someone wants to do it and they are not overly advertising the fact they are drinking. A few sips from a hip flask whilst you are waiting around or even sharing round a can on the tee is OK to me if that's what you want to do.

I also stayed at a place that had it's own 6 hole golf course in Cornwall and in the evening I could get round in an hour or so on my own. And I usually took a bottle of finest chilled Pinot Gris round with me in my bag, very pleasant on a long summers evening to have a glass or two out in the course.

But for the vast majority of the time I play I never bother as I'm usually driving and I don't overly have the urge to be honest.

Agree with time and place

for example I've smoked cigars on the course about 7 times .. 4 of which when I was on a golf holiday... the rest with my mate who we meet up about twice a year for a round since he had to move away

in my society days.. or normal round wouldn't even consider it

There's a big difference IMO beteeen buying a single beer if available on the buggy on a hot summers day or grabbing 1 from the halfway house and consuming it there and then and carrying a few tins and drinking them whilst walking around!

There isn't, beer is a beer regardless
