Now I'm new to golf, only been playing since October so am not fully au-fait with etiquette, on the course I play I have noticed that most bins have a few beer cans in, is this normal ?

Just so you know, yep I enjoy beer, doubt I would drink on the course though, but thats just my personal preference in thinking I need to give my game full concentration..

Just interested in thoughts on it..

I've never played with anyone who have drunk beer on the course

Depends on the occasion, at last years forum meet at forest pines there were bottle banks installed on every other hole :D today in our xmas comp we had a jagerbomb on the 9th tee

Golf is more than enough of a drug to get me round the course. Getting pished playing would not appeal to me in the slightest.

On captains day here we have a half way house tent set up with a free burger and beer for every player. If I am going well I will put the beer in my bag and drink it when I have 'that hole'.

I did play and join up with two chaps who supped on some cider cans as they played at eccelston park. Neither were loud or obnoxious. If fact you would hardly know they were drinking. It was hair of the dog stuff for them. One of them still managed to smash a seriously long ball.

I quite often have a beer on the golf course. Why not? I dont care particularly what i score, and im just out enjoying myself as i see fit.
I dont get playing when legless though, i cant see the point.

Time and place for everything. I've had a few beers on the course during Corporate days. Also on Presidents' Day they have a beer table near the 9th tee. Everyone stops for a few drinks and a chinwag with the ladies. Wouldn't do it during a comp though.

Not in comps and generally not at my own club but on occasion, maybe on a golf society outing where the emphasis is on a fun day out don't have a problem with it. Also, on "holiday courses" home and aborad in buggies etc it can be pretty standard with the refreshments buggie actively selling on the course.

I wouldnt. Dont mind if others do. What does irritate is when the drinking (and smoking for that matter) detritus is not disposed of properly.

Have no problems with a hip flask taking a nip or 2, also no problem with having a beer at the halfway house on a charity day etc, I've had a beer on The Centurion when the buggy comes around and stopped and consumed it. But other than that, I don't see the attraction of walking around with a few tinnies in the bag, I think people have a problem if they need to carry and consume alcohol consistently whilst playing and can't wait to get back to the clubhouse.

Err...

What was the question?

There's a time a a place for everything; including a pint of guineas with a full English (Scottish, etc), cold beer on a hot day, hip flask on a cold one and wine as appropriate.....

Golf isn't any different from the rest of life and the associated issues.

I'm not keen on beer on the course for me, just doesn't agree with me, but might have a wee nip in the depths of winter. If playing partners want to I'm not bothered providing they're not getting absolutely pished.

So if a buggy fetches the beer to you then you don't have a problem, but purchasing it before teeing off means you have a problem? 🤔

No one as said they need a drink whilst playing 👍🏻

i don't have a problem as long as it doesn't get out of hand. seen it happen few times, where empty bottles chucked about and a few handbags at dawn moments.

There's a big difference IMO beteeen buying a single beer if available on the buggy on a hot summers day or grabbing 1 from the halfway house and consuming it there and then and carrying a few tins and drinking them whilst walking around!

I never understand why people throw litter on the course, plenty of bins around & you are carrying/pulling a great bag with thousands of pockets.

No difference what so ever. You are drinking whilst playing golf, maybe this is how you justify it because you can't turn alcohol down when offered to you.

Saw it quite a bit in NZ , mainly of a Friday afternoon. Usual Captain's Day stuff here and also drinks on offer at halfway in Xmas Mixed and Mulled wine was available today
