Beer and Golf

Might have a pint before I play - more likely in Summer though. In Winter, I always arrive early enough for a bacon, egg and mushroom sandwich and a couple of cups of coffee.

If it is really cold, I usually have a sip from a hip flask on the way round. Invariably this is Kings Ginger Liqueur or decent whisky.

Afterwards, I usually stay for a sandwich and a couple of pints of beer.

On some of the society events I attend, the lunch is so good that good wine becomes an essential accompaniment. If we are a four ball this usually means a bottle of white and a couple of bottles of red.

Drinking and golf are synonymous with each other in my social circles but it is rarely drinking to excess. Just convivial company and a social drink.

Lastly, paying for the beers is usually what is played for in the match.

I like a drink as much as the next man. sometimes more.. But very rarely during a round.. Only available at the halfway on Captains weekend...

I am usually driving and would never ever ever drink as much as you suggest and expect to be under the drink drive limit.. You seriously are pushing the boundaries with that one fella...

Nooooooo. Like I said in an earlier thread, I always tee off early, so I don't drink any alcohol. Before I moved I would only have a few anyway. I just wanted to know about the culture in your clubs

I'm usually driving so don't often drink after a game especially with the new DD limits in Scotland.

if i get the chance at jollies and away matches when i'm not driving I have even been know to drink before playing, the few times I have, Ive played like a dream.

The little I now about golf has taught me that being relaxed help. I would therefore propose that the law allows golfers to drink twice the DD limit if accompanied by a full set of golf clubs !!

Surely it's played like a dram...

Personally prefer not to drink before or during golf. Happy to play catch up afterwards

For me, I try and play as well as I can every time I play and that won't happen if I partake of alcohol. Simple as that really. Afterwards I'm happy to stand my round and have a few beers with anyone.

Not at all. That would be equivalent to only about five pints over 6 hours. You lose about half a pint of alcohol an hour from your system, which means you would only have few pints in your system. The exercise from the golf would reduce it even further. If you want to be really careful, just have three cans, and you will breeze through any test. Of course, if you prefer to drink no booze at all, that is your choice entirely

Attitudes like this get people killed on the road- if i ever saw anyone drink like this regardless of 6 hours or not I'd be getting them stopped and breathalysed on an ESD.

Only ever drink and Golf on the Saturday of golf weekends away with my mates where we are staying on site. I have a pint in the clubhouse after a round on normal rounds but that's it.

I would have thought that only 4 cans over a four hour round, and then a couple at the 19th would be Ok if you were driving. But everyone to their own I suppose. The important thing is the we enjoy ourselves

Suggest you Google absorbtion and dispersion rates. But a basic calc you can verify independently, 1 pint = 2 units. 1 unit takes 2 hours to be 'burned off." Because the body can only metabolise a certain amount of alcohol at any one time, your 4 cans and 2 pints = 14-16 units and puts you way over the limit, probably for the rest of the day.

I'm guessing you're on a big wind up, or naive.
