Balls

Just some anecdotal ball-related stuff. On Friday I played a greensomes match, I went back to my Vice Air ball (in case my partner lost one for me 😄 ), and of course I was playing several shots with his ball, which was some kind of soft TaylorMade one - either Tour Response or Soft Response, I can't remember now.

Firstly, my driving wasn't as good as it has been in recent weeks, which really convinced me further that the Wilson Triads do move a little bit less in the air off driver - yesterday playing with the Triads again my driving was back to being very good. Confirmation bias I'm sure, but I'm convinced.

Secondly, when I was pitching and chipping with his ball it was very noticeable how much more it released out, a few of my chips went a good 15 feet past the flag unexpectedly.

Was talking to someone over the Ryder Cup as well about foursomes and how matching up two players who play the same ball is so important, and I can see why.

Whenever I have played Greensomes or Foursomes I insist upon us using the same ball. Although it is not my preferred ball I have never had anybody in recent years turn down the offer of playing with my ProV1s. Although they may have been somebody else's balls at some time beforehand.

Think I heard them on commentary mention that due to the pick and place being in operation they were able to swap balls mid hole to each others perferred ball. Personally I didn't think this was allowed in the format, Perhaps a local rule within the Ryder Cup on this occasion?

Under the current rules of golf if your ball is being picked up and moved to a different location you are permitted to change the ball.

Surely that's not allowed? I didn't think you were allowed to change ball in foursomes like that. Certainly not allowed to change ball on the green either are you?

On a green the ball is being put back on the same spot as it was lifted from (generally).

We have a foursomes knockout starting next month - my partner actually bought Wilson Triads a week after I did (start of September), so I asked him if we could use some of his, since he's more likely to lose one than I am. Unfortunately he said he's nearly lost all his already and they probably wouldn't last until next month. I've only lost 2 of mine I think. 😂

So if you are playing pick and place, you can tee off with a distance ball to maximise length off the tee, then when you find the fairway you can swap it for a premium urethane ball to get better spin / control for your approach? Didn't realise that!

I really enjoyed playing with the new ProV AIM ball.

I like the triple line version and playing preferred lies this week, it really focuses my swing path. No use if not preferred, but every little helps!

The club pro wants me to try the ProVx, so he has chucked a sleeve for me to have a go with this weekend.

These are good, got some AVX ones

I'm sure they will be similar quality to the cheaper balls sold by the main brands e.g. Callaway Warbird, Pinnacle etc. Probably made in the same factory.
See GM have done an article on them today. States lower compression ball to assist with distance and spin around the greens. I’d imagine there is a decent market for them at around £15 a dozen , know a few lads that would probably use them to be fair.

"The two-piece construction ball, which feature 338 dimples, conform to USGA regulations and are manufactured by SM Global who also make CostCo's Kirkland Signature golf ball."

One dollar each. I doubt they will be up to much.

I’ve bought various Amazon Basics stuff and been quite impressed. My wheely Basics suitcase has had a hard life for years and is going strong - better than comparable branded ones x10 the cost. Got a lovely monitor stand that actually feels like a really quality bit of engineering; better than the stuff from Dell, etc.

I’d imagine Amazon can trawl and assess the whole market to get the best budget-priced option then drive a ferocious pricing bargain AND get enormous economies of scale. No marketing costs needed either; just stick it on your website.

I’d absolutely give the golf balls a try; particularly as a winter ball or on a course where I might lose a few.

I'm really ticked off that Honma don't make the TW-S any more. I really like these balls and I still have a few left but would have stuck with them if I could have. Long, nice to put with and keep pretty straight.
I've got Wilson Triads for next year and having read the reviews I am hopeful, but would love to have stuck with the Honmas. I've just played two medial rounds with one of them.

Go nicely with my Skully medallion ball marker. Awaiting the Tomb of Skully on the 31st to see if the Mario putter covers come back in stock.
Have to let me know what it’s like.

Mrs M has asked me for a Christmas list so she’s added the TP5x version of these balls to it to collect as well. I’ll never use them as I’m not a TM ball player but going to put a little collection of golf related bits together so the TP5 & 5x balls become part of that. She’s already shopping Hell4Leather bits as well for me 🥹

Please let me know how they compare as we are also backed off we no longer have the Honmas.
