Balls

No they don’t. But obviously for the better player there is some kind of benefit to playing the correct ball for your particular swing. I’ve always used the premium Titleist balls since I joined a club in 1988. Not sure if the Pro-V1 is the “best” ball for me, but mentally it is. I just shot 2 over in a national competition at Woodhall Spa so I’ll stick with them. Yes they are expensive, but I don’t lose many so I feel that I get my money’s worth out of them.
That's what I'm saying, you are clearly an excellent player with a consistent swing so the ball matters to you. Most people it's the swing that will impact the shot much more than the ball.

Have had two ball fittings

One with Callaway and used the one that performed the best for me but in the end wasn’t a fan of the Hex look

Had an independent one about 18 months ago

And the one that performed the best was a left dash 1x

It gave me less spin and also helped give me a higher ball flight , overall increasing distance

It does feel a touch firmer which took a little getting used to
Which part of your game was the ball fitting for? Driver, irons, short game or putting? I don’t imagine it would cover all parts of the game.

You can certainly feel the ball coming off the club especially when putting and chipping
When I thin any ball with a blade 4-iron the sensation is definitely registered more through feel in my fingers than sound in my ears.
The feel v sound thing definitely depends on the club. GI irons it's more sound; traditional muscleback blades it's more feel.

I've been using Pro V1 left dash during the summer, but have just bought the Wilson Tour X ball, 3 for 2 offer which works out at £28 a dozen, will see how they fair.
Seems to be there premium ball, so went for this over the Wilson Triad.

I would say the Model and Model X are their ProV1 and ProV1x equivalents, while the Triad is closer to the AVX. The compressions of each match up almost exactly.

I really enjoyed playing with the new ProV AIM ball.

I like the triple line version and playing preferred lies this week, it really focuses my swing path. No use if not preferred, but every little helps!

The club pro wants me to try the ProVx, so he has chucked a sleeve for me to have a go with this weekend.

That would be correct. The previous version of the staff model ball is nearer the X version now.

This is one reason I hate having thick alignment lines on my ball - if I've got an approach shot and it's pointing 15 yards right of the green, I feel like that might throw me off a bit. 😂

It's actually easier to ignore than manage without it.

You'd hate how I mark my balls then

I enjoy how you've coloured in the little shields though. I'd be tempted to copy that if I hadn't have bought the yellow version of the ball instead.

The line on the ball has just never done it for me. On the greens I prefer a sort of loose feel of what the line is so I can putt freely and just try to get the pace right - that's what works better for me. Faffing and trying to get the line lined up correctly makes it too clinical.

I get that the line can make people line it up to perfection. I use it as a guide to the line I think but I don't spend ages making sure it is correct to the exact point. I coloured in the shield to see if it would hold up and make it easier to identify the ball if I wasn't able to see the line around the outside due to rough etc.

I thought Wilson premium ball was the Staff ball ? Didn’t know there was a Tour ball.

The simple reason I prefer a printed line is because it doesn't fade.

Plus, saves me doing it and it isn't wonky.
