Just a question, but when I carry I never put the bag down on the tee, always leaving it on the path/steps nearby. This is pretty common on my course, but whenever I play elsewhere I see more bags on the tee. Is it OK to put your bag up on the tee?

Absolutely fine - as per brendy - where i'm not too sure is trolleys - our course is flat as a pancake with huge tee boxes and my softy trolley pushing partners regularly wheel them over the boxes, always makes me wince but not sure if it's generally frowned on or not.....

yes its ok, common sense not to impede the rectangular Tee box though but stick it beside you on your own shot if thats what makes you happy. My course even the electric buggies get driven over them, doesnt do anyharm.

I put both my bag and when using one my trolley on the tee, not the actual teeing ground but near enough. What damage does a trolley do to a flat dry piece of grass anyway? Especially when you take into consideration the big bloody divot most players are about to take when playing their shot.
I know it is frowned upon by bag carriers but as I've said before they don't weigh nearly as much as green keepers equipment. I hasten to add if it is a rule of the course I always obey it and leave the trolley away from the tee.

always leave my carrybag on the teeing ground usually next to the tee markers. trolleys are not allowed on the teeing ground at our club

Never take bag or trolley onto the tee. When I was a kid if you took either onto the tee you would have got a right boll..king from from the greenkeeper ! Carry bags did not have legs in those days, so clubs could damage the tee if just dropped down.

Ahh, one of the joys of carrying....having the bag to hand.

In yesterdays matchplay, I didn't want to give away too much about my tee shot on the 16th. I took a driver, and a 4 iron onto the tee (30 yards from where you leave a trolley).

I sat the 4 iron on the ground, and confidently ripped off the headcover from the driver. The two opponent guys (carrying) ummed and arrr'd before electing to bosh it with the big dog. Once they'd hit, I put the cover back on and took the 4 iron instead. I never intended to hit anything else....but it's interesting to see peoples reaction when you pull out a choice of club in a tight matchplay situation.

I made a birdie, they went home.... :o :D

From what height would you need to drop your clubs to do too much damage that the tee cannot be used??

What's the problem with taking trolleys onto a feeing ground but not the actual"box"?

Don't really see the need for it myself.

9 out of 10 times you can leave your clubs right next to the teeing ground, maybe even closer than on the tee box behind you...

Carrying or trollying never put them on the tee box

Bags OK, trolleys no and buggies....dont get me started!!

I dont like the wheel marks in the grass that trolleys leave when people wheel them over the tee box.

What about the greenkeepers when they drive a tractor or whatever over them? Should that be banned/stopped too?

You asked why trolleys shouldnt be driven over tee boxes....I gave a reason why I don't like to see it.

I was always brought up to never put a bag on the tee or the fringe of a green and just never do now out of habit. I think over time and in particularly hot conditions if too many trollies were wheeled onto the tee it would start to leave a path and damage the box. Personally I can't see why everyone can't leave their bag adjacent to the markers on the pathway
