hi there
I have just got some new sexy forged irons and am after advice to avoid bag chatter/the irons knocking together.
1) I dont fancy iron covers as they would be a pain taking on and off.
2) I tried wrapping a towel around the last week but that just ended up with a lost towel.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I assume that you carry your bag across your back with one of the double strap devices over each shoulder. If this is the case then make sure that the bag does not rest across the top of your hips because that is where most of the joggling movement takes place as you walk. Raise it up a bit and you may find that the irons do not rattle in that position. I'm not saying that this is the answer, but it did work for me once.

I have forged irons and i use iron covers. The extra second it takes to remove the headcover isn't an issue and is no hassle.

On top of this it does help keep your irons in better condition outside of the course, i.e. when they are in your car en-route to course. The difference to forged clubs having and not having covers is considerable so i would suggest you get the covers. That way, if you ever decide to sell your clubs will be in better condition.

Also - if you get HC and play in the rain, make sure you take them off your clubs when you get home and they dry otherwise you'll get rust spots on your irons.

i had iron covers... they were the really cheep ones on ebay... only took me 3 rounds to lose the lot as they all jumped off my irons and onto the fairway behind me one by one.

now i just accept bag chatter when i'm carrying as one of those things.

Interestingly Mizuno don't recommend iron covers for their forged irons ...... The use of iron head covers is not recommended as they trap moisture and accelerate the production of rust.

I am on my second set of iron covers. The first ones are quite battered, I guess the clubs would have been too.

They are put back on whilst walk and don't waste a second.

If you towel dry the clubs and give them the once over regularly, corrosion isn't an issue

It all depends on the make up of the cover, it could be breathable and dries fairly quickly or could be taken off after the round to clean the clubs thoroughly anyway.
Mine are the other type, clear rubber, the clubs are dried thoroughly before being put away after a round.

I picked up my new MP62's yesterday :) :) and the aftecare tag attached to them says " Inappropriate care of this product may result in the development of rust spots and blemishes, particularly with grain flow forged irons. To best maintain the appearance of Mizuno irons and woods - remove headcovers after playing (irons only)"
Not sure if I will be bothering with covers myself

At the end of the day its lovely when you have shiny new clubs and always a great idea to do whatever you can to protect them but just make sure your care and attention extends to after the round too judging by the advice on here. Don't forget to enjoy the new toys during the honeymoon period
