Had my first ever lesson the other day. Grip, shoulders and arms all good. Posture stance and lower body movement errrr not so good. :o

Got me to thinking as I coach another sport and get sick of telling people to go back to basics....grip stance and back swing (cricket) when your game goes wrong how many of u go back to basics or do u carry on and adjust what you think is causing it or Carry on trying to learn to fade or draw the ball while the rest of the game doesn't work??

I plough on for a few weeks assuming the basics are still right but when things are still wrong I go see my coach and check the basics. It usually is something little that can be sorted fairly quickly with an expert eye.

That's kinda my point I have seen lots of players go through a bad patch and the pain that goes with it can be sorted in 20 mins....I am a victim of this as well though :o

The good thing is I have now hopefully learned the basics early enough to bed them in to my action

Im in a slightly different boat. I was playing well a month or so back and went for a lesson. Apparently my swing is perfect apart from it being too fast. Im trying to slow it down but its getting everyng else wrong and now i feel worse than ever. I know its right and im trying to persevere but my lesson has added 10 shots literally. I could scream. From low 80's consistently last month i hit a 95 on wednesday. I nearly cried

I find its really hard to motivate people with things that make a game go initialy worse....its like coaching a bowler to do something different he then sprays it everywhere until he gets into the position he has been taught...I can't remeber the exact figure but to make a change become permanent in your action it can take something like 10000 goes before it is commited to your "muscle memory"

I try and check my basics daily at home in front of the mirror but generally I forget or do it briefly as I pass the hall one on the way to bed.

I get my pro to check me every lesson (once every 6-8 weeks) and I try check at the range and if I do not know my pro is frequently happy to field a question or two if he has a spare 2 mins as I am a regular customer and spend a lot on lessons and in the shop.
