automatic log off

tick the box to stay logged in.

Either I'm misunderstanding or that doesn't help.

That tick box as I understand it just stops you having to log in when you come back to the site.

The system automatically logs you out after a period of inactivity.

I get round it by keeping the "Who's Online" page open, as that automatically refreshes.

You will still be logged in but as far as I am aware the system thinks the period of inactivity is the same as being logged off which means that it marks all the threads as read and "starts" again from that new point with regards to unread posts.

You are correct with the "who's online" aspect as it tricks the system into thinking you are still active as it refreshes the page every minute? thereby keeping the unread posts at he same stage as when you were looking at them but as the question was relating to being logged out then surely the only real answer is to make sure you tick the check box when logging in?

Sorry, yes you are right. I never actually get logged out.

My issue (that led me to leaving the who's online page open) was that stuff was being marked as read when it wasn't.

Yeah thats due to the inactivity period that the system sees. Hence why staying with the who's online page negates that. ;)
