Posting Only Good Scores

I was just wondering as can imagine it being carnage on the course if you had to enter scores as you go.
Everyone wondering about with their phone in the air trying to get a signal 😂
You don't need a signal to enter the scores, just need a signal when you complete the round and submit it. My trolley has a phone holder on it so the phone is always visible. After each hole it's just a quick swipe up, app is already open, just quickly stick the scores in and hit next to move to the next hole. I usually do it walking from green to the next tee.

My EG app was caught out without signal at a round , it wouldn’t register when I started

I had to go into the club house after 6 holes and it kicked in then

Card was deleted

That works great for you but I could imagine my old man, swapping his close up glasses for his long distance ones constantly fumbling in his bag for his phone and trying to find the right app if he can remember his pin code.
He would probably be set up on Tinder by the 4th hole 😂

Hmm, maybe it does need a signal then? I'd have thought that once you register a signal wouldn't be needed until you submit but thinking about it now, since it compares your scorecard to another if you are on both cards (to give the warning about non-matching scores on a hole) it must still be using the data connection. You would hope they would skip that check if no signal but maybe not.

I get a signal the whole way round my course though but don't in the local McDonalds car park when trying to click the app that I'm at the drive through which is slightly infuriating.

also getting picked scratch teams. we had a couple of guys who were decent golfers steady 5 handicaps. put in a load of GP scores got down to scratch, got picked for the Northern Counties team, then got beat by a team that had never won a game. neither broke 80 in club comps that year either.

Surely the club should check order of merit / past comps scores before picking a team for a high profile event.

I thought the signal didn’t matter as well , was told that by EG as well

It’s normally an issue at my home club

But this was at a course where it’s a dead zone - no masts etc

it was queried with the team captain, but they were duty bound to pick the lowest players for the team. the two guys who were replaced were two 2 handicaps who were unbeaten in 3 years.

Don't understand why people would do that, I'd be mortified.

My mate had said to me at the start of the season "why don't you stick your name down for the team as a backup" and I was like "no way, imagine if I had to play. Even number 6 guys are scratch for all the teams in the league, I'm not going out there to get pumped 6&5".

some good courses in the rota, Dornoch, Royal Aberdeen etc, get a practice round and at least one match, plus its an achievement to get picked if you are not a elite player or a young guy. all the really good comps its all kids getting picked

Anyone in the team and hasn’t been beaten should still be in the team.

Never change a winning team imo.

Going on lowest handicap can’t be trusted anymore imo.

With the WHS it is possible to play a round and then sign in and post your score after you have finished your round (2 hr window). What can be done to stop people doing this and therefore manipulate their handicap index (up or down)?
If someone is only posting their good scores in this way, what harm does it do?
Whoever you declare to attest/mark/sign your card (electronically or IRL) should call you out and remind you that this is not the done thing; golf is about integrity and a players responsibility to protect the field.

So you took it well 😂😂
TBH id had enough of the way the club is run. comps became 3rd fiddle, the two months the course was in its best condition July and Aug, there were no comps but every saturday there is some jolly for select groups of members. they also took in a load of "under "35 who paid half, most were from the other club, who just left becase it was cheaper than their membership. but id suspect they will all return on mass once they are out of the age group. Plus i changed job and wasnt playing during the week any longer, didnt seem worth the fee any long.. but the biggest factor was the course change. they put a load of waste area bunkers in the middle of the fairway at 230/ 240, but if you carry it 260 play none are in play i was finding i was laying up on a load of holes, where previously i hit driver and being quite straight was in the middle of the fairway and used to avoid the old pot bunkers. it was a rare occurrence to break 70, but all of a sudden all the young low guys were shooting the lights out low to mid 60s gross every week. had zero chance in any of the comps any longer, quite a few guys of similar ability's felt the same. feel even better about it now the land adjacent to 13th was sold for housing, massive traffic jams every day and noise, going to be like it the next 5 years :ROFLMAO:

If using an App to enter the scores you must start a card which is your declaration that you are entering a GP for Handicap purposes

You can then fill it in afterwards but the card on the app has to be started before the rounds starts
Do you have to submit the card at the course, or can you fill it in later when you get home?

You’d be surprised (or maybe not) at how many scorecards are created after 21.00.

Actually the App is very poor to allow a card to be created less than 2 hours before sunset.

If the App did this and had an error message on the App reminding anyone who does so of their responsibilities it would be a great help to diligent handicap committees. Another suggestion that has fallen on deaf ears at EG.

I actually suggested this at the WHS Update workshop earlier this year.
The EG presenter said it would be difficult because the sunset is at different times throughout the UK, getting later as you move northwards, e.g. today it is 21:04 in Reading and 21:28 in Carlisle.

Silly answer really, just make the cut off 9pm would be a start? Even 9 holes in 28 minutes would be a push for most people.
