Played in our Auction Cup Sunday. Was fairly confident going into it after playing well on friday and saturday.
Pulled my tee shot down the 1st into the trees, no problem, a 70yd pitch and run 8 iron with a little draw to a foot, Tap in birdie, YES, great start.
The next tee shot right and cutting, O/B.
The third blocked straight right over big oak tree, lost ball.
The 4th,par 3, pin back left, top tier. Come up short on the bottom tier just off the green. Just have to go up the tier, up the bank at the back of the green and roll it back next to the pin, easypeasey. Hit the chip to hard, stayed up the bank in the longer grass. S**t. Chipped back down, putt, 4.
Hole 5. Long par 4 O/B down the right.no problem, cant remember the last time i ........................ Oh bugger.
3 brand Pro Vs in 5 holes, not good.
My partner and i struggled to the turn with 14 pts. Our playing partners had 16 pts. This was a match for the purists. We gave ourselves a bloody good talking too, had a laugh about it and came back with 21 pts for a grand total of 35pts, the same as our playing partners, and just outside the money. Although we did have 2 2s on the par 3s, so all was not lost. We got £3.75 each for both birdies.
Just a quick word about Mark Burton, one of the winning pair.(Him and his partner won after a 4 hole playoff, having tied on 41 pts with Phil and Robin Gale). Playing off 4 proceeded to go around 18 holes in 1 over, the way the course played(long), the very cold, blustery wind and not the flatest greens, that was one hell of a round. A very big well done to that man, awesome golf.
A great day was had by all, as we drunk the club out of Fosters and Pironi.
