We are in the process course improvements and some holes are being lengthened over a 2 year period.

2 of the holes have new greens one is 30 yards longer than it was, the other 5., 1st now has a raised green, was 395 and will be 425 and is currently si10. The 7th was 520 off the white, now the new green again raised is 50 yards further away so will be 560 and Si 12. both will be considerably harder holes than they were.

would these holes need to be re rated for 2019???

there are more improvements still to come , with new bunkers and new tee's for 2020 so the whole course will need re rating again in 2020

May need ore than one extra shot if you get it wrong with those raised greens ;)
laying up short of the fairway bunker on 7th used to leave 110/120 yards now its 160 just to carry the front bunker for your 3rd, no chance of scabbing it on in 2 when it wasn't too windy now either

If it hasn't been rated in the last two of years it will have to be done before 2020. ie before the new World Handicapping System comes in.

If it has been rerated, I doubt you'll even get a stroke, possibly one. The county may be prepared to simply reassess the holes involved but it may depend on just when it was last done

If it hasn't, it's difficult to say. The new rating system is a little different to the old. They will have to do the whole course.

Course rating is only concerned with what was the SSS, now the CR (Course Rating). And then you have Slope to understand.

SI has nothing to do with course rating. It is done by the club following the guidelines set out by England Golf.

by the look of things its getting done when all the changes are finished and we will rely on the CSS just being higher which most seem to think it will be.

I wasn't suggesting the SSS and SI were, just the two holes that have had major changes may need to be, plus we are in Scotland so EGU won't have anything to do with it

The CONGU guidelines for SI allocation apply to all the National Unions.

Missed that you are north of the border. Of course you will have already been rated under the USGA system so the SGU will only need to look at the changes.

Absolutely. I'm surprised you had to even ask.

Let's take these two imaginery golfers and pretend then always hit this predetermined distance.

Zzzzz
So how would you handle it for these two individual golfers?

But remember the USGA's massive resources. They studied thousands of golfers over many years (and still do) to produce the model players used in the rating system. They admit it's not perfect but no one has come up with anything better.

Firstly we are not robots therefore a predetermined distance is nonsense. It always assumes that the scratch golfer will always take on a hazard and not lay up going by their predetermined length. Thus it negates the hazard for them despite the fact that it could still be in play.

There are numerous other anomalies. However it's a crap system that they/we have adopted and it looks like it's here to stay.

1) Firstly we are not robots therefore a predetermined distance is nonsense.
2) It always assumes that the scratch golfer will always take on a hazard and not lay up going by their predetermined length.
1) So what should the approach be?
2) Not unreasonable for consistent players.
