Gotta echo your comments Dave, I have had the pleasure of meeting about 10(maybe more) forum members this year and each one was as pleasant as the other.

Have had about 5 different games with these members and Various other meets at Ranges and most recently the Golf Show at the NEC.

My mrs was a bit wierded out at first I was meeting up with strange men, now when she asks who I am playing with she says 'O Dave from shropshire or Dave from Yorkshire?' :D

She even thinks the weekender is a good idea because and I quote 'you will be able to drunk with them all after the round and not drive home' :D

I belong to a couple of car forums and these guys meet pretty much every weekend at locations up and down the country, purley to just stand around and look at each others cars. Atleast we actually play against each other.

Long may the wierdness continue!

Are we weird?... certainly not

My boss thought it was a good idea as it was him that referred me for anger counselling.
My Mrs was worried on the first meet, not because of what might have happened to me but what I might do to someone else.
I guess i'm just mis-understood :D

Are we weird? In the current world of technology certainly not, forums such as this will be hugely common amongst all within a few years- and there are already countless numbers of them across the web. Meeting up may be a bit weird but I think golf being a sport of honesty and integrity means that most people would offer their genuine personality whilst posting in public, and as such you can get a good feel for the person. It certainly is strange playing golf with someone you have never met before and possibly have nothing else in common with but the main shared interest of golf is more than enough to base discussions on- and lets face it we are all golf nuts or we wouldn't be on here. Plus the only person I have met was easy going and down to earth so everything was great. You can see why outsiders may be a bit insecure about the idea though.

probably because in my job you can never use an abbreviation without glossing it first, in the early days some of these abbreviations were (and are sometimes still) puzzling.

I never learnt text-speak, which is I think where many originated.

I know what you mean, but I see the modern text as a bit of a bas****isation of good abrieviation, but unfortunately I get caught up with it when you see it so often. :)

I think it would be weirder if we didn't meet up!

I used to get a bit of stick from my pals for the time I spent on the forum but a few of them have now attended the forum meets up here now and realised that it's actually a great way of meeting like-minded golf nutters who are a good craic! Good golfers too, by the way.

Would like to think I've now met some genuinely good friends on here in the last year and a half who I'd never have met otherwise. Can't imagine I could have done that with any other sport/pastime.
