I'm playing with Murph, Leftie, and Smiffy on sunday which i'm really looking forward to.

When asked in my plumbing suppliers what i'm up to weekend I said, 'I'm playing golf with some guys I chat to on GM forum'

Supplier said....'hold on...did you just say that your meeting up with some 'GUYS' you met over the internet'?

When he said it it sounded a little different.....not so innocent.

Still, I always carry a pair of 'chucks' in the side of my bag incase it kicks off on the dancefloor!!! lol!

Anyone else had any stick about meets? My wife said that she's a bit worried. LOL LOL!!!!!

I get all sorts of srcastic comments about chatting daily with a load of guys (and our few lady members) on the internet. What makes me laugh is one of those doing the mickey taking is one of the guys who played in the GM challenge so I tend to get my own back.

I guess if you try and explain the concept of a) loads of strangers, b) mostly blokes talking about a niche subject like golf (when compared to say football etc) and the said male strangers arranging to randomly meet up in a cold car park at a strange golf club to spend 5+ hours in the company of these strangers it does sound a tiny bit weird.

You call it Golf...
I call it "grooming"
:D :D :D :D :D

I'm looking forward to playing too...just wish this poxy weather would ease up.
Had a phone call from my mate Khalid tonight (one of the other three guys going) asking me to phone the course up tomorrow to get an update on the condition. I actually did this today!
Apparantly they have only had light rain down there recently, the greens are holding up "superbly" and the course is only "soft" in a couple of places.
No trolley bans, so rather than use a buggy and have to keep to cart paths and then walk across at 90 degrees with 3 or 4 clubs in my hand (and don't you always leave one around the green?) I will give the new GoKart it's first outing.

I think a lot has to do with how you put it over, for example if you were to say to HID or your mates...

"Ive been chatting to some real nice guys on the internet and found that we all like a walk in the country enjoying a fun game with pals and we have agreed to get togeather in a woodland scape to enjoy each others company as we meander along taking in the scenery making chit chat about each of our atributes and equipment!"

That is likely to raise a few concerns among family members.lol.

I get stick mainly because I have the forums open in the background at work when I should be doing something else like I don't know... work.

Whats the advise, always take a friend when you meet someone from the internet for the first time. My best friend at the moment is my lob wedge so I'm sure it'll be fine!

I hate it when you use 'lol' - why can't we let our use of language speak for itself?

Doesnt everyone use abrieviation abr.. as indicated in dictionary? Often statements are made that are clearly humerous and do not require the additional indicator 'lol' but some do, as often people get very upset when they miss the wit. I wont get out of my chair to concern myself with it. :D lol.

probably because in my job you can never use an abbreviation without glossing it first, in the early days some of these abbreviations were (and are sometimes still) puzzling.

I never learnt text-speak, which is I think where many originated.

My mrs just thinks err golf - boring!!!!!! and leaves me to it!

Yes, same here! The first meet-up I went to was with dave3498 at his course and I haven't looked back, an absolute gent and just another keen player enjoying the banter here happy to share the chances to play new courses and chat during a fun/friendly game. Since then, no-one seems at all bothered, it did help getting my picture in the magazine thanks to Homer's invite.
Probably the most surreal moment was meeting J_F and Madandra after the game was called off. Only true addicts would meet up for range bash and a beer on a wet day in deepest and darkest Edinburgh outskirts!! That and meeting up with TonyN in the middle of a Nike demo day.....I thought we'd never escape without new clubs.....actually, Tony hasn't....in a way....
