Asking for a friend. Someone played really well and won a competition at the weekend, having decided to get divorced. Some people are able to be more focused and dedicated when single, others flourish when married life off the course gives them stable foundations.

Rory has always been best when single and having some fun.

He won at Wentworth the week after he binned off his previous ex.

Faldo did not win a major while married to wife number one for 5 years.
He won 5 of his 6 majors while married to wife number two.
His 6th and last major was won during a 3-year relationship with a lady 18 years younger than him.
Wives number 3 and 4 have occurred after his major winning years.

I don't think his divorces made any difference to his golfing performance.
I wonder whether his choice of motor vehicle during those years made any such difference.
Or chosen brand of toothbrush?

I played my best golf when I gave up working.

My wife and I had a very good understanding about when I could play golf so we never argued about it.

I was a 21 to 14 handicapper when I was married.
Got divorced and 8 years later I've got an index of 7.5.
Not convinced there's any correlation, but you can make stats say anything... 🤣

There’s probably a correlation somewhere between leading sportsmen and shagging around. Many examples of players (playas) at their peak, Tiger, Seve, etc. I guess the confidence/ego and demonstration of being an alpha male.
