Appeal against speeding fine

A few years ago I saw a community Bobby on a bike and felt encouraged by his presence. Then I watched him park his bike out of sight and hide behind a lampost with his speed gun aimed at passing cars. The road in question has two road bumps and a crossing.
Yes, cars will abuse the limit but I found the scenario depressing.
A few days later, outside my house as I parked, two community Bobbys strolled along the pavement and, once again, pleased by their presence, as I made eye contact, they simply passed by chatting to each other.

Well if people are doing one or two or even 3 they clearly aren’t learning

A fine will hit them in the pocket with increase in insurance as well

Most people just zone out during the course and play the game

But it brings in the money
Can you explain how a speed awareness course brings in more money than simply fineing and issueing points. It would seem to me the latter is the bigger money maker as their is little cost.

Is it really ?

Seems like something that could go horribly wrong

There was a fake speed camera put up in a local village , caused cars to brake sharply which in turn caused an accident

Intentions maybe good but potentially could cause more issues

Leave it to the police etc
It's like you're making excuses for people.
Drive at the correct speed and it won't happen.

That's not the case at all. Certainly the course i was on.
It was interesting and informative.

One of the things I took away from it was, a video showing
an advanced driver in a family car, good tyres, road condition dry.
There were a pile of boxes on the road, built like a brick wall. Car travelled at 32 mph, driver did an emergency stop and smashed through the boxes.
Repeated the same but travelled at 30 mph. Did an emergency stop and stopped just before the boxes.
Amazing what a difference that extra 2 mph made.

But what is the "correct" speed?
Is it the speed that is appropriate for the road and conditions, or the number on a road sign?

Speed limits are a very blunt instrument. If the limit is the maximum safe speed in good conditions, then in bad conditions it's too high, but people get away with driving unsafely. If it's the maximum safe speed in poor conditions, people are punished for exceeding it even though it is safe to do so.

Have you never been behind someone who is driving at the speed limit and then when they see any speed camera signs or a camera slow down ?

There is no definitive line

Accidents have also been caused by people driving below the speed limit as well

I have been on tbe course myself and seen the way some act on it ,

There will be those that take something away from it , those that will continue to speed and those that will continue to think they were hard done by

Some will never learn hence why I think you should get one course and then after that stricter fines and points

It is not safe to exceed 30 mph driving through a town or village. Many places have gone to 20 mph because of this. A great move in my opinion.

A couple of years back I was on the M62 on the Manchester side of Birchwood travelling West, it was February and the sun was setting. I was travelling about 65 miles an hour in amongst a steady stream of traffic in all the lanes. Everything ahead was clear and I went under one of the speed camera stanchions. The thing started going off like a scatter gun across all the lanes behind me. I suspect it had just been switched on because you could not of missed this going off as I approached it. Spent the next two weeks watching the mail but nothing happened. Is there any leeway given on these things so that people get a chance to react?

60 seconds leeway I think if you're close to one when the temp limit changes, eg from 60 to 50 I believe
