Appeal against speeding fine

If it caused an accident, people WERE travelling to fast.
That's not how the general public work tho. They see a camera and slow even if not speeding.

Speed awareness courses are one of the best tacklers to drivers attuides and speeds I've seen

I've been on 2 (sounds like they don't work but they do lol) first was in person course. I had been stuck in traffic ages and soon as we got to 2 lanes I booted it up the hill and over the top were the police with a gun. 70 in a 60. Fair cop. The course was fantastic, for those who engaged rather than took it as an insult to be there. "Just a money maker" (it's not, it's the same as points but it teaches people) the amount of people who didn't know the national speed limit for types of roads etc was scary. Clearly had just read the highway code the night before the theory and forgot it all. The stopping distances got me. If doing 100 the distance you would take to stop at 70 if doing 100 you would be doing 70 still. That was a real interesting point for me.

Second one I was driving home following an ambulance clear road , I didn't realise the ambulance was going fast as it seemed slow. Police awaiting round corner I looked down at my Speedo ...bugger I said to myself..fair cop I just had drifted over.

No points touch wood since then or in-between the 2 courses

They should be what's offered more and more education

That’s perfect example of them being used to make money

Imo you should only be on one course

After that it’s points

You can only do one every 3 years. Then it's points.

They used to have more courses but now they don't they used to have one for being caught in a 20, one for being caught on a smart motorway but now it's a general speed awareness course and they are far better than points as people get the chance to learn something rather than just be given points which achieve nothing. They used to get you banned for 6 months at 12 points but now people can just apply for hardship and end up being let off with a bigger fine

Well if people are doing one or two or even 3 they clearly aren’t learning

A fine will hit them in the pocket with increase in insurance as well

Most people just zone out during the course and play the game

But it brings in the money

Better to try and get through to people than just wack with points. It achieves nothing. Increase insurance doesn't overly bother most. What's £10 a month in the grand scheme? Just adjustable..a shop around covers most of it.

Education is key for most.

Studies have proven them to work

unfortunately the best way to curb speed is average speed cameras as it's the only roads people take most notice of the speed limit.

And that’s why they get a course first offence to try and educate

Then if it’s clearly not sunk in , harsher fines and penalty points

The “awareness” course should be a warning

I work in Winchburgh and know that exact bit you’re on about, it’s surprising there’s not a smash every day with folk hitting the brakes at the last minute to avoid the camera. The traffic is always chaos probably due to no-one really knowing the speed. I’d say surely grounds for some sort of appeal

We drove round the M25 the other night , suddenly the gantrys went 50.. next one 40 so we thought here we go. One after national.. then changed to 40 again once we got to it and suddenly was national again

Someone was playing silly beggers

I have to say I agree and not just because it's my daughter, I look at that road and think they have almost created an accident hot spot

We came back from the British Superbikes at Knockhill on the same road and while Anna took a couple of photos (which show the trees clearly obstructing the gantry) i done a rough measure of the time, at 60mph the time from the displays on the gantry being visible to reaching it was no more than 7 seconds, at the road limit of 70mph this would probably be around 5, the other thing is surely its not normal to go from 70 down to 40 is one jump, especially with no prior notice
The thing is that you mention she was overtaking a lorry. So my thoughts would be focusing on that and not looking at a speed limit sign that had dropped to 40 when the rd is normally 70mph.

There is a garden along side the A66 in Cumbria and the householder has a cardboard cut out of a copper with a speed gun. It’s pretty effective at slowing the traffic!
