Anyone played a round with only irons?

Yep, I play Romsey golf course in Hampshire with just irons. Its not the longest but it is a tight course and i'm a bit iffy off the tee with woods so decided to use irons after struggling the first time I played there.

Tried this earlier this morning, 4-PW 52 & 58 deg.

Went around in 75 gross (par 70). So played to my handicap. There was only 4 holes I couldn't reach really ( all par 4's over the 400 yard mark)

It certainly felt I was in the fairway more often. Not sure I'd have scored any better with my woods in the bag. About the max I could get out of two well struck 4 irons was 370 yards so this covered most of the par 4's

Found it an enjoyable exercise and would try it once a month to help my iron play

Indeed, I found it enjoyable but wouldn't play that way if I had any hopes on winning a game against anyone. There were a couple of holes I'd normally play driver lob-wedge and ended up hitting 4-iron twice.... still, I really think it helped my iron play as I tried a lot of swings I'd normally not have done. Once/month would probably be great idea.

Played a 36 hole matchplay recently, 18 home and away. Think over the 2 legs I hit 2 hybrids (off the par 5s at my home course) and hit no more than 3 iron other than that. Won 8&6 and was prob a combined 6 or 7 over. Not for everyone for sure but no reason it cant be a successful approach either

I'm still waiting for you to turn pro..............!!!! Hurry up!!!
