Just finished an Archery beginners course with my 14 year old daughter, She needs to do a sport for her D of E and as she is totally uncoordinated. Archery seemed a good idea, as she is under 16, she needed a minder so yours truly got sent.

Anyway we got our own equipment and this morning was our first shoot with the new kit, the standard scoring shoot is called a "Portsmouth" shoot and it involves 60 arrows in total, 3 arrows per end, 20 ends in all. Max score is 600, a good club score is 500 and this is the score to try to get, rather like 36 in stableford.

Last years club champ got 550, well with my first shoot I scored 544, To say im pleased is an understatement. The guys there were stunned. just wish my irons were as accurate

Im continually drawing parralels between Golf and Archery, in terms of setup, minute adjustments here and there, grip, smooth release etc

Just like to know if anyone else takes part

No but did try my hand every day on holiday in the summer! Really enjoyed it apart from the odd arm injury as the protection was too small! There is a club at the bottom of my road but never got round to having a look.

We've got a couple of clubs local to us and may look at a wee visit this year. family did Archery taster session on holiday last summer and it was good fun. My daughter needs to find a sport to do and archery would fit the bill as she was reasonable proficient in the taster session. As you say, there are a lot of similarities between the golf set up and archery set up. I certainly found it quite easy to find my rhythm with it.

Use to do competition compound archery but loved to get the recurve out too. Only stopped to take up golf. My problem was the archery clubs membership, there always seems to be a good junior & senior section but nothing inbetween.

My last bow, it was a bit of a monster. It had a 60lbs draw, a bit ott for target archery.

If you get into it you will enjoy it, usually have very nice people shooting.

Looks like a beaut, Picked up a Bowtech Tribute compound on the bay for a song, 50lb draw, goes so well

Nicely done! Bowtech bows are very nice. Was a hoyt fan boy myself. Have you picked up a release aid yet? If your just starting out avoid the back pressure releases.

I have a trueball assassin release aid, about £35 and as smooth as a smooth thing on the planet smooooth, listening to smooth FM

I was in the TA for a while and in the Regimental Shooting team, with the rear peep sight, its so similar its unreal.

Not going to give up Golf, but feel as if Archery could be another string to my bow :)
