I'd like to watch some Ashes, but it's not going to happen.

Time to rant.

I am fed up of subscription TV and hope that one day it disappears up it's own backside to be re-born in a better way. I am fed up of major sporting events only being available to those people prepared to pay monthly tariffs and subscribe to long-term packages.

I want to watch the golf majors, some tennis and cricket and maybe even the odd football game. I am prepared to pay for the privilege and potentially quite a lot, certainly for golf. But I don't want to spend £200-500 a year to do so.

The government is planning to enforce the rights of freeview and non-sky companies to broadcast sports events, requiring sky to "sell-on" the event at a fair price. I approve. Bring it on.

Perhaps Murdoch and Darroch should take a long hard look at the figures. £5,000 million turnover, ONLY £700 million profit. Tight numbers. If sky sold on the rights to other companies, perhaps they could make another £200 million a year in Britain alone from letting ordinary folk not interested in the packages watch events P-P-V through another provider? It ain't rocket science.

If everyone cancelled there sky/virgin subscriptions at the same time wouldnt the forementioned companies have to lower the prices or dissapear?

Pay my Sky subs and happy to do so.

Absolutely no comparison between terrestrial sports coverage and that of Sky.

Yes....and how much does it cost?

Whatever it is, is going to be far more than I'm prepared to pay to watch 3 or 4 golf events and a couple of other things.

The point is there's nothing wrong with BskyB per se, and I'm sure the coverage is nothing short of superb....it's just there a millions of folk who don't want to sign up to permanent packages. The bods at sky expect (in time) everyone to sign up to £20, 30, 40 per month. It's not going to happen. The majority of folk I know do not have sky, nor do they want it. sky could be selling P-P-V through other third parties, but they won't......not unless the government gets their way, it seems.

I've got the full package with SKY :- Phone, Broadband and SKY Plus in 2 rooms. I pay £37 a month for the lot. Every channel, apart from things like CelticTV, MUTV etc.

That seems OK...I'm pleased to get a reply. Thanks for enlightening me.

Going to have to check mine Gustavo, sure I am paying over £50 and the only thing I have that you don't is HD.

I know that is £10 a month so appears I am paying over the odds or have you got a deal out of them?
