Anyone been to Paris

Wow.

Feel free to ignore the xenophobia in here! Opinions, like derrier-holes, can be found on anyone. So let me attempt to redress the imbalance...

Paris is a magnificent city. Not once in all the times I've been have I felt threatened or fearful. You will not dine better anywhere in the world on such a regular and casual basis.

For what it's worth, on my last (very) recent trip, I found the natives to be friendly, conversant in English willingly and unfailingly polite. So much so, that I found myself shaking my head in shame that our country has stooped so low that we are now out-etiquetted by the Parisiens of all people.

Admittedly in the past, the Parisiens could be a little haughty to say the least, but how friendly do you think most Frenchies find London these days?

Marvellous place and happy to give some suggestions if wanted via PM.

Well said - I totally agree.

I know Paris quite well and have customers in the region. I also spent two summers during university just outside Paris near Versailles and loved it. Been to Paris most year's ever since.

It is one of the world's best cities with so much great stuff to enjoy. Asking where to stay and what to do is a very broad question without knowing what you want to do etc.

PM me if you want advice on areas to go/stay or restaurants etc.

Salut!

Snelly.

I echo all Birdiemans thoughts regarding Paris as my wife and I were made to feel most welcome on our trip. We did all the tourist things and, whilst having enjoying other large cities, must put Paris at the top of the league.

Regarding the Scottish/English part of Birdiemans offering - my video camera went faulty in transit and when I went to the nearest camera shop for advice I had a great problem making myself understood in my schoolboy French and their lack of English. The camera was taken into the back shop and I overheard the assistant referring to me as English and I corrected her, explaining that I was indeed Scottish. All staff now spoke perfect English and my camera was repaired without any wait and I left with the staff wishes for an enjoyable holiday following me out the door.

I can only say from that encounter that the French love the English as much as the English love the French!
