Anybody been to Lapland????

Missus is thinking of treating us to a joint Christmas/Birthday present and nipping off over to Lapland for a 4 night break in January. Hopefully get to see the Northern Lights with a bit of luck. Bit of snowmobiling and a husky ride as well. What's it like, other than fecking cold????

I thought the same......I have been to a place called Lapland but not the one Smiffy is asking about!!

I took my kids a couple of years ago to see the "big fella", we had a husky ride and went snowmobiling, food is mainly fish! (which was probaly the only down point for me) It is weird as it gets dark around 2.00pm, but we had a great time, plenty to do and there are these amazing "ice bars" where everything is made of ice i.e tables chairs etc.
If it is your thing? the scenery is fantastic!

But "fecking cold", does not describe how cold it can get!

My wife and daughter went three years ago. I passed on the trip as I don't do cold. They loved it but it was a bit commercialised. Well worth it if you still believe in things like Father Christmas and 3/4 handicap in singles' matchplay.

Not into Father Christmas but would love to experience the Northern lights. We know it's a bit hit 'n miss as far as seeing them is concerned, but the trip she's found looks a lot of fun anyway. Seeing the lights though would be the icing on the cake.
Looks like she's going to book it up today.....

Not been to Lapland , i have looked into it but always seemed a lot of money for a short break. Also the extreme cold does not really appeal . But if you would like to see the northern lights , look into a Norwegian cruise , we did it this year ( didn't see the northern lights , wrong time of year) but it is fantastic ,the fjiords are amazing , we plan to go back and will time it to stand a good chance of seeing the northern lights

Missus has booked it up. Going over in February for 3 nights/4 days. Full board, got snowmobiling, husky sled ride and a visit to a reindeer farm included, £649.00 each including flights.
I'm going to be fecking annoyed if it's cloudy!

We did this trip with the kids about 4 years ago. Stayed in a hotel called winter wonderland, and did all the trips your doing the kids realy enjoyed it...apart from meeting the man in red. He arrived at the hotel a bit early in his sleigh and sat outside smoking until it was time for him to come in...not realy what you expect from santa.

Ohh, and we never saw the northern lights even though all the trips were at night.

We went in 2006, spent first night Kiruna in a lodge then did two day husky safari, where we had to harness the dogs up and then take turns to drive and ride, Spent the second night in a wilderness lodge ( no electric or running water) where we were given specific jobs, like feeding the dogs , starting fires in the huts , getting the sauna going. All in the dark and it was only 2.30 pm !!
Yup did the rolling in the snow bit but kept my trunks on
Communal dinner and then tucked into the wine we took with us.
Next day more travel through the stunning snow covered forests and frozen rivers.
Spent third night, New Years eve in the Ice Hotel
