I got a new exhaust system fitted (turbo back) to the car yesterday and since I have been making excuses to go out and drive it, especially out into the b roads, not hard or fast, just to listen to the exhaust sing. Am I the only saddo? btw I am 34 not 50 ;)

Andy, Yes and No, bikes are great for outright speed and making the shortest line through a series of bends. There is a lot to be said for awd and fun though too.
RichardC, very similar fella, 3 inch turbo back system and sounds incredible.

When I had my Honda VFR800 I spent over £800.00 on a straight thru' stainless steel exhaust system, removing the cat in the process and the end can had a removeable spud to make it even louder. Sounded like a Dornier Bomber going through tunnels...

It that "Cat" as in Catalytic convertor or did you blow next door's moggy through the fence when you started up the engine?

£800.00 on a bloody exhaust system just because the cat cover (which was made of mild steel) had rusted a bit! I used to like my bikes looking immaculate, and that was the one piece of it that looked "tatty". Asked at Honda whether it was possible to just buy the cat cover but the response was that you couldn't..you had to buy the whole catalytic converter at a cost of some £900.00!! So I thought "bugger it" and went the whole hog.
It did sound nice though...although it cocked the fuelling up a bit

Smiffy, I live less than a mile from the main carriageway out of town across a little depression in the land with a few houses between. Every Sunday you can hear the guys heading off on their bikes clear as day going up through the gears. Sounds amazing but i know I will never own a bike, I do appreciate them though, our wee country has a knack for growing great riders and every time one does well it's on the news etc.

I had a brand new Kawasaki ZZR1200 that I bought in May 06. First thing I did was take the bloody torpedo shaped silencers off of it and put a pair of Staintune race exhausts on it to make it sound good.
Shortly after, I decided to sit a "Bikesafe" course run by Sussex Police. Basically you go out with another biker and a Police rider and you take it in turns to lead, with the Police bike staying in the middle marking you for your roadcraft.
The copper that was with us said to me afterwards "normally I have to weave about a little bit behind the lead bike to be able to see they are using their gears properly. I didn't have to do that with you Rob, I could hear the bloody things as clear as day!". He gave me a big smile and asked where I got them from 'cos he wanted to put a pair on his road bike.
Lots of police riders are keen bikers (obviously) themselves and have some of the best kept (and loudest) machinery available. They are great riders and don't need to get their knees down to make rapid progress. I consider myself to be a fairly good rider, and even on my later ZZR1400 (best bike I ever owned) couldn't stay with one on his Pan Euro around some twisty bits near home!
