Hi,

went for my first round since beg Dec this morning. Hit the range first (this did nothing for my confidence), then stepped up to the first tee (playing on own thank god). Lost 8 balls in 2 holes and walked off. Have never felt so bad playing golf, everything felt wrong. I am trying again on Fri , so I am praying that it goes better .

Plus point of the 2 holes was that it did not rain !!!!!!!

Cheers

Quite the opposite. Played a bogey comp at our place after not even swinging a club for 5 weeks. Couple of practice swings on the first tee and smacked one off into the fog. 72 gross including 5 birdies, finished +3 just outside the prizes. May try having winter off in future !!

You must of used all of my good luck up.

I've come close, but I reckon you just about beat me....

A course in Sedgefield has OOB down the right hand side of the 1st tee, I once put 3 balls OOB off said tee one morning but I carried on!

You are not the only one. Last Tuesday I came in with the "massive" score of 17 stableford points.
Out again tomorrow with the aim of double that score.

Our Pro told me the story of when he was teeing it up in a Europro Tour event at Mere GC near Manchester. It has a big lake all down the side of the 1st hole.

After pleasantries on the 1st tee one of the Pros carved 5 balls into the lake put the driver back in the bag, shook everyone's hand again and left the course.

I'm sure there was some poetic license in there but funny none the less.

had my first round since mid december as well.

started off par, bogey, par... was thinking, this is like i've never been away then... 3 off the tee and finished with an 8 on the 4th - YIKES. Then i took 3 shots to get 200yds on the next hole, picked my ball up and walked to the next hole.

I swallowed my pride and told myself i had to expect it after being without the game for over a month and recovered to play pretty well for the remainder scoring a few more pars and nothing worse than bogey.

Really enjoyed it and considering some of the mud i had to play from, thought the day was a success!

I feel your pain OP. Finished last season reasonably well and managed 34 points on my first outing of 2010.

I've decided to get a few lessons ahead of the new season and had the first of those last Monday. I felt things were going relatively ok on the range through the week.

Turned up yesterday and with about 3 million swing thoughts rattling around my head i stuck three balls in the water on the opening nine and another one OB. I also managed to shank an 8 iron off the tee on a par three. I scraped 9 points on the front nine in the end.

Decided to try and forget all about the swing changes on back nine and it worked a treat. I managed 11 on the back nine.

My lowest stableford points total ever. More than a tad embarassing considering i was playing with the club captain too who i met for the first time on the first tee!

Had to hit across a dogleg right with dyke as wide as a river running across the fairway at driving range for many but fairly easy for me to clear almost always even in a head wind like this occasion?????????

I was so angry at the way I played off the tee, I was determined to clear it, but my anger kept making it worse.
7 balls later I crossed the dyke by 30 yds, I couldnt even be bothered to get the balls back outa there.

I think HTL had a similar number of lost balls trying to clear a 150 yard ravine with a PW. I think my worse effort was losing 4 balls on the front nine but I do feel your angst. Keep going - the only way is up

I played 18 last Thursday, first time out since mid Nov and first time out with the new irons. Started out pulling everything a little left but after 5 holes was only 3 over.
OOB off 6th tee (new Callaway, first hit) and had a double. After that played quite well and ended with a net 65 so was pretty chuffed as I walked off.

Midnight does your first hole require the driver if so leave it in the bag and take a rescue or a long iron until you've warmed up and relaxed enough to swing it properly...
One you get a hole or 2 under your belt then unleash it and you might see a difference.....

To be honest mate , the only club that I was happy with was the putter. Apart from that it was just one of those days where I should of stayed in bed . But I suppose that is the great game we call Golf .....

Cheers

I've lost 26 golf balls in one round before.

I won two nearest the pins and a longest drive and my playing partners nicked a doz callaway tours each. Plus a couple of Slazengers on the course!

Not a good day.
