i went off to a specialist who sorted me out for some customised insoles which have made a big difference. pain free rounds no swelling and better balance.
i have speical insoles sitting around somewhere. i havnt wore them since last summer. i only wear them when my knees get a bit sore. they dont really correct your foot straight out though. i also have bunions on both feet which ill need a op for. Its hard to choose when to have that though as ill have to either give up the golf, or the football.
I have fallen arches which, over the years, have affected my achilles and calf muscles. I used to play cricket, bowling was my forte so, as a result, the bowling action puts a lot of strain on the lower leg. Because I was flat footed my achilles was in all sorts of trouble.
I saw a physiotherapist who told me that one of the main muscles in my leg hadn't formed properly. He said that it had the strength of a twelve year old boy. As a result, he sold me some shoe inserts which made my arch higher. He said that by making my arch higher the strain would be taken off my achilles. They did.
He did advise going to see a specialist who would take moulds of my feet and then make custom fitted inserts. £200 per foot was out of my budget. If I ever become a touring pro then I'll get them made.
