Been thinking about getting one to do a bit of travelling for me and Missis T for when she retires next year. Went to a couple of places in Newark today to have a look at some. My initial thoughts on how much one would cost to fulfill most of our criteria was grossly underestimated. Having said that I never had a clue in the first place. What did become clear very soon that 99% of them just were not for us with a fixed bed, but also were just not ideal for two grandkids either.
Anyway over the next few months there gonna be a bit of sole searching re do we or don't we.

Any golfers out there that has a motor home. Ironically one I did see and liked I checked to see if the was space for me clubs.

Have a neighbour who had one for 18 months, costly to buy and keep on the road, but, he sold leading into the summer time and got his money back. Good condition, low mileage ones are much sought after 😉

Funny you ask , only this week i enquired about hiring a 2 bed version. They quoted £643 for 5 days , so i didn't ask anymore questions .
So I'm not sure about any add-ons like insurance, and mileage etc.

My mum and stepdad swapped from a caravan to a motor home and then switched back to a caravan after about 18 months. The problem they had was that if they wanted to go somewhere for a day out while on holiday they had to pack everything up and drive the motor home and then set everything up again when they got back. Can get around the problem by towing a small car behind the motor home. Would a caravan be an option? Can get some decent ones for a reasonable price and a lot of layouts have fixed bunk beds which might suit the grandkids.

On the continent I have seen Smart cars attached on a fixed link to the back of motorhomes to help resolve the problem Colchester mentions. Makes for a long vehicle though. It's a very valid point he mentions and one to think on.

cost way to much and dont get used ,i worked at a garage that serviced them for the local retailer and although the idea is nice for what use they get they arent worth the money. can you seriously afford to spend upwards of 20k to have it used no more than five times a year for the first couple of years then not used at all for the next year .as that is what would happen.
my advice is get a caravan .

This ^^^^

My mum & dad had one for many years then changed to a caravan for the very reason ColchesterFC says. Yes you can tow a tiny car behind (or some folk carry a little motor scooter on a rack at the back). But it probably means the towed car is your third vehicle - as it's unlikely to be your main transport at home (and the motorhome won't be either).
