Another "where to drop" Q

Question prompted by something that happened to a fellow player last week...

If you're taking a penalty drop for an unplayable, are you allowed to drop onto a path that happens to be within 2 club lengths? And if you are, can you then take free relief from the path?

I tried looking in the rule book and couldn't find anything to prohibit dropping onto a path.

Yes, that's fine! Relief from path, provided it's allowed, is a separate activity.

As foxy has posted - but don't forget that if the ball bounces back of the path to the place it started its going to cost you another shot to drop again! It happens.

Rule of thumb: what the rules don't prohibit is allowed.
