Yeh, Windows 7 is about to be launched. Great init, Microsoft brings out Vista, a pile of crap, deliberate in my mind. They take ages to sort all the problems then bring out Wondows 7 when we think everything’s sorted. In a few years time we’ll all need to get rid of Vista because others will not support it ( the power of the Windows corp) and we’ll be stuck with W7…. which will be just as troublesome as early Vista. They cant make it right first time can they, no, Microsoft are a small company trying to feed the world eh. They’ve got to make you want the next one in the hope it will be better.

Now you know how to make money… a bit like the early Taylormade R9 420 driver, a pile of crap. Two or three months later and you can get the 460. They can’t say it’s worse than the 420 can they.

Dont forget all of the certification courses and exams that come out with each new operating system.
I have had it for a month or two now and am well used to it now (under msdn supscription) and while it is faster, more glammed up and useful, I dont know if I would want to pay over a hundred pounds for something that is superceeding an adequate (if a little problematic) existing system, xindows xp. Vista just didnt do the job and its advertising was poor.

Apparently if you have a Vista PC, you need to have the Hard Drive replaced if you want to put Windows 7 on it.

Ehhh?
That's the first time I've heard that.
Straight install after partitioning
:D

"The upgrade software will allow you to upgrade a Windows XP or a Windows Vista machine to Windows 7 but it won’t work with earlier operating systems such as Windows 98 or older. "If you upgrade from XP you will have to do a “clean install” which copies your old Windows installation to a backup directory on your hard drive and gives you an entirely new installation of Windows 7. Once that’s done you’ll have to re-install your software. If you’re upgrading from Vista Service Pack 2, you have the option to doing what Microsoft calls an “upgrade” which keeps you existing software. Personally, I think a clean install is a better choice even for Vista users because it gives you a brand-new installation with none of the problems that typically plague Windows machines after a few months of use. Do you remember how fast your machine was when you first got it compared to now? The hardware hasn’t deteriorated but Windows, after awhile, starts to slow down because of spyware, software that clogs the Windows registry, uninstalled programs that aren’t completely uninstalled and other factors that, collectively, are known as "Windows Rot." A clean install starts the clock again and makes your machine at least as fast and reliable as it was when you bought it. Actually it may even be faster and more reliable because of the advantages of Windows 7 plus the fact that you won’t have some of the junk software (called "bloatware") that some manufacturers pre-install on new machines".

Ive installed it over windows xp and vista, what it does is it moves the old windows folder, users and program files folders into a new folder called windows.old. In reality it is a new install and doesnt seem to take as long as the previous versions from start of installation to the end.

I bow to your knowledge Smiffy.
I did say 'apparently', as it is something i was led to believe by a usually reliable source.

I have no "knowledge" to speak of Geezer.
Just what I had read. I haven't a clue what I'm doing where PC's are concerned. I'm just going to whop the old disk in and let it start whirring.
If it works, it works. If it doesn't....I'm fecked.
I mean, I'm talking about "partitioning" as if I know what it means!!

I'm not....
I ordered mine months ago off of an ebay seller for somewhere around £75.00 (only ordered if from there 'cos I had a few bob sitting in my Paypal account un-used).
Others on the A/V forums are saying they can get it for that.
Apologies if I mislead you

I'm with Ethan on this one. I'll never buy a PC again. Apple and Mac all the way for me lest the accursed Microsoft spoil my day. Once you try it you never go back to the dark side.

I shall move up to Windows 7 soon-ish.
I'm hoping it's not to CPU/RAM hungry and I like the look of the XP mode.

I despair of all the people who complain about Windows.

I use 5 PCs on a day-to-day basis. I also use a Mac which is pimped beyond wildest imagination. The Mac works beautifully, it's true but then again I've not struggled with any of my other computers, other than a HD crash on my laptop.

I use XP on 4 machines and vista on my laptop. The desktop PC in my home recording studio (an AMD) runs like a scalded cat.

I'm pleased vista is being replaced, but it's worked fine for me other than being resource hungry.

On Windows 7 now as the old computer had a total existence failure over the weekend - hence the lack of posts!!

Seems much the same to me but then I'm a technophobe.....
