Another Grip Thread - Standard+++

So been infected by this place again and now find myself hunting for new grips

Been looking at Lamkin N-Dur 3 Gen grips as I want something a bit softer than the GP Mizuno M21 grips I have at the moment. I got fitted 2 years ago for my JPX800 and they recommended standard grips. I accepted the recommendation as I had no clue about layers of tape and whatnot.

Checked out the Online fitting tool on the lamkin site and ruler in hand I took the 2 measurements and got recommended standard+++

So this is 4 layers of tape in total I beleive, my question really has anyone made this much of a change before?

I don't know how reliable those tools are tbh.

When I was fitted at Titleist they had various grips on cut off shafts. Each grip had differing layers of tape 1,2,3,4 etc.
the fitter got me to hold each in my hand and checked the sizing that way. I think it was best to have your fingers just touching your palm and no more. So for me was 3 layers.
This was different than what the online tools suggested based on my hand size and length of middle finger.

Just checked old email from a week before my titleist fitting and The Ping online fitting tool recommended white grips for me which are std. I will look at the Lamkim tool in a few minutes and put my exact measurements in once I get a ruler. Then post back on here.

Just did the Lamkin one and it gave same result as what the Titleist Fitter Recommended. So you should be ok

The NDUR grips are great but bear in mind that the grip has a reduced taper meaning that compared to other grips the right hand is already built up a bit. I had my NDURs with three layers of tape and have just switched down to single layer and it is much better with just one layer for me. I'd recommend getting one with a single layer on your 7iron and one with four layers on your 8 iron and seeing which you prefer. Your pro should be able to blow off and reapply for you. Remember grip thickness can affect club head release.

hmmm I come up at standard+++ aswell. What would having just standard do then? I do feel I have to grip too tightly sometimes which I am assuming is down to thickness

I've just ordered some Lamkin grips, and the fitting tool suggest I too should take a standard grip size built up with 3 layers.

I actually emailed Lamkin to query f it was 3 layers including grip tape, or 3 build up layer + grip tape. Turns out to be the latter, so effectivley 4 layers.

I was gonna go back to lamkin crosslines over the stock ones on the irons anyway Gareth from previous experience. I reckon I will try with 2 layers 1st though on my 7 iron and hit the range

My mate will not be happy as I usually drop my whole bag at his and leave him too it (I can do it myself but he always insists)

Sounds exactly how my grips were in my hand. At times felt that I had to squeeze too hard to stop the club from moving about.

Never had a single problem like that now they are that wee bit thicker.

I had Crosslines on my R7's and thought they were great.

I can't speak specifically about amount of layers as that's a personal thing however I'd agree with Tiger that the Lamkin NDur grips are great, I got a set out in the states last year, 10 for $30 which was a bargain, pity they didn't have more.

9 N-DUR for £25 seems a good deal, so gonna go ahead and order them. Will get just the one fitted and play about with the layers to find the right blend.

How did he check your grip size?

Its possible he told me standard, but actually ordered standard +++, but he told me that "stock grip" is fine.

Whats the stock grip on off the shelf clubs? standard with one layer of tape?

Just the one laye I believe, athough happy to be corrected.

When a pro took a look when I asked him, he suggested 2 layers + GT (3 in total) So the Lamkin tool isn't a million miles away (+1 layer)

Begs the question if anyone, tour player or not, would notice an additional layer or lack of under their grip.

I've always had just the 1 layer, but when I was fitted last week I was handed a grip that had +2 layers on to see if I preferred it and I couldn't tell the difference, so we split the difference and went +1 layer.

Now I've got them they feel huge compared to what I'm used to, although I handed my brother an old and a new club and he thought the new one felt thinner so it's probably all in my head!

All of the clubs in my bag are from ebay so there are bound to me some variances in there somewhere between the irons and the woods.

Will need to sort this now as its my head as well, like the look of those Lamkin 3Gen performance grips on Gamola - hard to ignore at that price

The Lamkin Performance Plus i6 are the NDUR upgrade. It looks as though Lamkin have discontinued the NDUR as they no longer appear on their website. The NDURs look like they are made with a two part process as there is a clear join between the two coloured sections. I've got an i6 for my hybrid and it's seamless and one colour but still retains the two different patterns for front and back of the grip. They've also saved a bit of weight as well as I believe the i6 are lighter. I went with NDURs because the weight was the same as the wedge grips but the i6s are very nice and with one colour they do look better. Happy shopping fella
