Annual subs up again this year

So lets get this right,you use the bar but wouldn't wish to load it with say £30 of your money that you will spend there anyway?

I could understand if you were one of those that never step inside.

I have NO probs spending money at club and supporting, just AGAINST an enforced Levy

People are funny about being told how to spend their money, and I just feel it does more harm than good, and would so at my current home club.

An example -- There is a Senior I know that is currently NOT playing much golf, he is a wealthy guy, and every lunchtime is dropped off by HID, has 5-6 pints of John smiths ( or the like ) then is picked up and taken home.
We were discussing Bar Levys and the like in his company, and HE said if it were enforced, he would LEAVE.......
He probs spends £50 per week ( atleast ) in Bar, but WOULDNT agree to a £50 per year levy

That is strange, our card also has the ability to buy a round of drinks even if there is only a couple of quid left on it to save any embarassment, again beats forgetting to get to a cash machine if you were in a hurry to the course in the morning.

As above, would you rather pay £30 to the club and get no extra value for money or load £30-£50 onto a card that gives you another 10-15% discount on drinks/food which then sees the same £30 heading back to the club anyway but at least you are getting £50 worth of food and drink that you would have paid anyway.
For me, even the fact I can turn up without having to remember to go to a cash machine first, is a bonus.

I wish my place would at least let you use the card for that sort of thing. The amount of times I have forgotten money and had to shoot of home after playing is kinda silly.

I'm with Moogie on this one, i.e. totally against bar levies. Who joins a golf club to prop up the bar? Why should someone be 'forced' into the bar? Why isn't the same argument applied to those who join but only play social golf, i.e. that they should enter all the comps? Freedom of choice...

I load my card up at the start of each month, which by the end of the year is certainly more than the £600+ subs I pay out. The golf is one product, the clubhouse is another and I enjoy both. As for the clubhouse profit subsidising the course, and hence the carpark members - I don't care.

Like where I am, but if next years increase goes wrong way ( for me ) then I will be looking at other options, and I know some of my playing partners feel likewise

There are plenty deals out there currently, especially if joining with a 4-ball, room for negotiation

See how I enjoy Goswick on saturday............could be an option.......?? But a once a week game then

The £100.00 bar levy goes on our card which can also be used to pay for medals/competitions so in effect it doesn't go where it should!

As such those that hardly ever step inside the clubhouse pay for their golf with the bar levy and still don't contribute to the bar & restaurant so what's the point?

No bar levy at our place but the subs are going up £15 not to bad as we have not had a increase for 4 years.

I've heard tell of a small increase at my local track next year, but don't think it's much (£20-£30) on top of the years subs.

Not too bad really considering we currently have closed membership.

If they are doing that, they may aswell have just put your fees up £100 and said that Comps entries were FREE

My fees jumped from £480 in 2011-12 to £1140 in 2012-13 - ok so I did move from a cheap NW golf club to one where 100 metres down the road I can see the CoL!

I have to say SH is one of the, if not the, worst course I have ever played......

I got mine through the post yesterday and ours have gone up £58 to £958 and to be honest I'm thinking about jibbing it and paying that bit extra at a better links track.

The only problem is paying a joining fee aswell which I'm not too keen about.

Its been crossing my mind as well mate. The only reason I don't is the fact that I have to pick the kids up at 15:15. The extra 20 minutes travel time each way would make a huge difference. I'll have to wait until they can both walk home, or move...

Ours is going up by about £25, which wouldn't be too bad if it hadn't been shut about 30-40 times already this year. I had hoped that they would realize that people are unhappy and keep it the same, but they do seem to live in a little bubble of their own...
