Annual review - following the They Do Exist thread

I've just had a two shot reduction in our AR. I then won that day's competition off my lower handicap.

That was very lenient of them the way you're playing now!! ;) Well deserved, been an impressive year

I'm too mediocre to go up or down in these, they put the review on the website and the noticeboard though.

Past few years our club has informed players they are about to undertake the annual review and asked if you want to request a cut/increase to be considered and to provide supporting reasons. Friend of mine was actually asked if he would take a reduction (which he did), assume he was borderline.

I asked for a two shot increase last year - they said not for now but would monitor - then spent nearly 20 rounds going up 2 shots with a very occasional buffer and no cuts but never making 7 or so in a row. Was extremely demoralising as was off the back of a bad run before that.

Funny thing was a player who I have played against/with on several occasions who plays 7 or 8 qualifiers a year got a 2 shot increase (could not see how that could be justified) . Next two comps he won (40 points +) and got cut 2 shots .....

Seems it can be somewhat arbitrary at times, clearly varies across clubs and some individuals are favoured perhaps if the club approach is less than objective.

louise_a;161261 The review guidelines also recommend taking into account other performances in other types of competition that are not qualifying both at home and away courses. .[/QUOTE said:

Sounds as if your club has no clue whatsoever as to how to conduct the Annual Review. The Handicap Committee's task is to consider the AR report's recommendation and take that together with any other factors and make decisions. Their brief does not include asking players what they would like to happen to their handicaps.
