It's the first time I've looked at mine this year since I've only played 3 rounds, but I was surprised because GIR is normally one of my stronger areas :(

Homer, not suggesting for a second that you haven't explored every inch of the software, but have you looked at (for a longer period like the whole of last season) stats for GIR when fairway hit vs GIR when fairway missed?
I was pleasantly surprised when I found it and it wasn't that big a difference, but maybe your missed fairways are more penal at your course than mine.

I drive the green on a short par 4. Trying to hole a long eagle putt, I putt off the green into a bunker for 2. I then leave it in the bunker for 3. For my fourth shot I stick it in the hole for an unlikely par.

1. Did I hit the fairway ?
Yes: Hitting the green is better than hitting the fairway so it would be illogical to record this as a No

2. Did I hit the Green in Regulation ?
Yes: A green in regulation is hitting the green in (par - 2) or less

3. Did I have a sand save ?
Yes. A sand save is where you get up and down from a bunker. Normally, that is one bunker shot plus a putt. In this case is was two bunker shots

4. Did I have a par scramble ?
No. This is the weird one: a par scramble is where you make par having missed the green in regulation. You hit the green in regulation so therefore you can't have a par scramble too.

What can we learn from this? Stats don't tell the whole story. Something worth remembering when our beloved politicians start spouting them in the next few pre-election weeks.

Got Scoresaver2 on 30 day trial, but think I'll end up buying it! Thought I'd post my stats for your comments. I've only been playing a year and so far this year have played 5 rounds (2 of which were only 9 holes) I haven't found a bunker yet, or a birdie! I'm reasonably happy with my driver for my handicap (apart from a tendancy to hook it) but my iron play off the fairway is still very variable. Now working hard on the short game! More lessons more practise and a spring/summer of as much golf as possible, and I'll see where I am by the end of the year.

What can we learn from this? Stats don't tell the whole story.

Correct. According to the "don't count a putt as a putt if you are putting from the fringe" rule, I went round in 29 putts on Sunday.
I ain't that good

You can count it anyway you want Smiffy or, indeed, choose not to count at all. The point about having rules and definitions is to try to enable people to compare like for like.
