Became reaquainted with an old friend today. Although I have generally been playing well recently it has been in spite of and not because of my 4 wood and 21 degree rescue. Digging around in the cupboard I came across an old 21 degree 7 wood that my pro made up for me years ago. A brand called Seal, its a nice size but not too big, has a TT Dynalite shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet Wrap grip that they don't make anymore.

Took it out today in the wind and rain instead of the other 2 clubs and to be honest I can't think of a reason why it went in the cupboard. It hits the ball high, long and straight with the kind of control you only get from a steel shaft.

So its staying in for a while - might sell the other 2 and find a 4 wood with a steel shaft. Then again??

Do you have an old faithfull in your bag, under the stairs, in the garage or anywhere else??

Oh yes, my bag is full of designer gear other than my old trusted 5 wood!

Its from a memphis set i started with a couple of years ago, when ever i say memphis no ones heard of them yet its a decent club and always works even when i'm playing bad.

I have a 7 wood like that. I can proberbly play a whole round with only this club. (providing I stay out of bunkers) I can hit it high, straight and 150 yards or long low and driving 200+ yards, it cost me about 30 quid around 5 years ago but this is one club i cant get rid of.

Even when I go pro and play in the 2010 ryder cup, this will be in the bag! I may use a putter aswell, not sure.

I have an old Mizuno persimmon style 5 wood my dad gave me when I first started that is just lovely Not to mention his old bladed putter, much dinged, but works great, both may find their way into the bag again at some stage.

No, never go back.

If a club doesn't work, there will be something newer, and shinier just around the corner that will be better.
