We have a raised patio where the drop is over 1m, so need to put railings around it. It is about 25m of railing around the patio and the stairs into the garden.

We looked at Glass, but initially it looks v v expensive. So looking at steel. Supply & Fit

Any one any experience in this stuff?

Glass balustrades look great when new and first fitted but the price of them to buy never mind install 25m worth is ridiculous. Steel is a good alternative with very little upkeep and will last forever, some composite decking formed as railings also a good option.

Id say steel and wire rope look great and probably best cost wise. Unless any young kids or anything that could get through

We really like the wire approach.. out kids are too old (but still stupid enuf) to jump off. are the steel wire piece a recommendation or a reqirement/legislation?

Just a recommendation mate, worked on a few raised patio jobs and for the difference in price between that and glass I honestly think the rope effect looks better with less upkeep too

That is where my thinking is leaning. Is there any wire rope company you suggest.. we are in surrey. I cant fit these, so looking for supply and fit. Steel handrails + wire rope. Would love them to be black

From another thread a couple of years ago.

they look like wooden ballustrades.. must have moved on.

Interestingly came across this picture and i thought it was interesting. Not cables but hard horizontal railings.
Thoughts?

we r getting the tiles done.. and now realised that there is a potential problem .. the patio was supposed to fall away from the house, to allow for the water to drain off. The tiler has started working and now has realised that he will need to build up the adhesive behind the tiles in order to raise them.. So unfortunately, it means that where the tiles get close to the house are higher than anticipated.
We have an acochannel between the house and the final tile. i am trying to find a way where it can look less miserable height levels between the bifold door and the first tile on the patio. Around rest of the house, i am going to put some pebbles to cover the acochannels, but not under the door. Need to find a way we can transition from the patio, over the aco channel and into the house and if possible be smooth to allow for a wheel chair.
So looking for some options for acochannel covers ... doing my head in.

Any suggestions

Jeez this is basic stuff, where did you get your tiler from, hanging about outside Wickes? 🤦🏻‍♂️

On Temu.. :)

Not the tilers fault. The patio was done last year. So never been fully aligned with the builder. Now when we come to tile it, have we realised that the drop from the house to the edge of the patio is not correct.

So we have a situation where we will have a gap between the door level and the first tile. That gap is currently the aco channel width
