Definitely not going there no more, nevada bobs is the better choice in my opinion.
Classic example of American golf ( happened this weekend) Dad wanted some new irons and tested some nikes, throughout the custom fitting, the man kept pesturing away with different iron sets that where twice the price. And the monitors are completely wrong, i tried his irons and hit 3 7irons 165 consistently, i NEVER hit a 7 iron that far, normally 140-145. And then i bought a new wilson staff deep red driver, tried it liked it, before i knew it i had an r11s in my hand !!, only 3 times the price, luckily i hit the wilson staff better. , they always suggest the more expensive products there rather than what you need.

faced with your Dad wanting some new irons the salesman is going to give him all options, some better for his commission that others, BUTR just becasue the set is twice the price it doesnt mean the profit margin is double, could be less than some brands that they have sole import rights to.

The range monitors are never right, how would anywhere sell clubs if they couldnt give you the impression that they are longer than your old clubs .

they always suggest the more expensive products there rather than what you need.

If you know what you need why not just order on line?

I will from now on, dunno why i didn't in the first place, the pro at my club let me test a driver for 3 DAYS before i chose whether to buy it or not

Then they go to AG and try them all
Then, when they have decided, buy online.

I don't know he liked the looks of them, and liked them the most at that price range, yeah they might benefit him, but if you try out 3 £20-40 putters, does that make it right for the salesman to hand you a £500 scotty cameron and say you should buy this, then you decline and say its out of your price range and they hand you some more £250+ putters? this is just an example by the way...

Exactly - bought a new pair of Footjoy shoes today from my Pro. I could have got them maybe £5 cheaper by trawling the web but, all things being fairly equal, we should be supporting our pros.

Same with the Plymouth branch. An to be fair they haven't handed me the exspensive stuff that are no good for me. Always chat to Scott or Darren on what I'm after etc and we pick a selection together and don't feel pressured to buy... Only had an average experience in there once when I was greeted by a sales assistant as aposed to a qualified pro guess its all about which member of staff you speak to.
And we have a proper range as aposed to a net and monitors.

Same in the Basingstoke branch for me. All the guys I've dealt with have been very understanding and knowledgable when I've spoken to them.

Unfortunately the staff in these shops are trained to do two things....tell you what you want to hear and sell golf clubs. I was bored one day shopping so wandered in, only to be jumped on by a pushy teenager. I pretended to know nothing, explained I played off 22 (which I don't) idly picked up a set of muscle backs saying that they looked nice.....instantly the sales push was on, oblivious to the fact that the clubs were stiff shafted and totally unsuitable for a 22 handicap golfer.

Can only comment on my experience but on saturday I went with a budget in mind to the Menston branch and treat really well by the pro there. Tried 5 different fairways and he gave me honest advice on each, couldn't decide between 2 and in the end he actually if they both feel the same stick within your budget, which in the end I did. He wasn't after my money at all and I never felt pressured at any time and was left alone for a couple of minutes to smash a few balls and make my own mind up. I definitely go again after the service I received but would also consider all my options before going there or to my local pro shop.
