American Golf - well it's in the small print!

I use their price match all the time, even if they match a price I've seen I'll keep going as low as I can. Unless its needed urgently, can get it delivered without much problem. Only had the one issue, reserved some adizero and got price matched. Tried them on, 1/2 size too small, bought the right size and they attempted to charge full price. I literally has to log on, on my phone and re reserve the right size at the price match. You're gonna get numpties everywhere I guess.

It's a shame that their management don't frequent the forum, they might realise how many potential customers are alienated

I seem to remember seeing a post from 1 of their team. So they do occasionally.

I'd search, but there'd probably be quite a few similar threads to search through!

AG in New Malden are excellent.

Also, perhaps they only had limited stock of the v2 themselves, and as the cheaper places were sold out, they had no need to price match. Thats just business sense. You dont have to buy it, which in fairness you didnt. Wait for the v3 to be in stock.

If they had the v3 in stock they may have been more willing to negotiate on the v2. No point in hampering themselves for the sake of it.

I don't understand why you'd go to a big chain store looking to haggle with them, knowing that the employees are just employees and so in no position to sort out a deal. If you want to haggle why not try it with your local pro shop?

maybe this is why?

If they say they'll match a price against stock from another retailer and then don't then you have to question any "promise" they give about anything....

The one near me in Warrington has great staff and are more than happy to help you out, give you clubs to try and they have always price matched for me. Seems to me like its the person you end up dealing with that make the AG experience hit or miss !

I only ever buy balls from American Golf

Recently bought a Garmin S3 watch and they would not budge on their price, not even by a small amount. Ended up going to Direct Golf on The Wirall and picked on up for £215 so was well happy

Also, American Golf staff (Aintree store) always pounce on you as you walk in .... I want to be left alone to browse

Exactly what Imurg said. they have a price match promise. My Pro is price matching for me, it's just that I could have had it sooner if AG had got the V3 in stock. I wasn't looking for a "deal" except that they no to a price match by using the small print in a rather negative way.

So our nearest new AG is now in Canterbury, so, I've popped down there with a view to purchasing a new Bushnell v2 or v3.

I double check that they will Internet match but they don't have a v3 in stock, their v2 is in stock at £229. So, I show them on my ipad that I can get a v3 at £209 and a v2 at £198. "Sorry, but the v2 isn't in stock at your Internet place so I can't match their price" " but the v3 is in stock there but you don't have one!" So I ask if there is any room for some leeway, but no there isn't. I was also going to buy some balls and maybe a few other odds and sods but decided to order from the online place who originally advertised the best price and so deprive AG of my hard earned cash!

They let me walk out with my £300 firmly in my wallet because the computer said no!

Hi Chris im sorry i have only just seen this thread but would like to reply on behalf of ag.
It is regretable that the store were unable to price match your request on this occasion and i understand that you perhaps thought that they were sticking to the small print in an over zealous way that cost the store your business. It is indeed a pretty transparent policy that enables us to very happily pricematch very regularly both online and instore where we find that our customers can secure a better deal on a like for like basis i think most of the comments on this thread from our customers confirm that we want to secure your business and customers feel comfortable that our policy works. In your case without knowing all the facts it appears that our policy indicating that any pricematched goods must be in stock and available has technically not been the case and the store has not matched on this basis.I undestand that the way we subsequently handled this has lost us your business on this occasion and that is as always a learning point for both ourselves and the new store you visited. Im sorry that our level of service fell below standard and reassure you that your comments do matter and will influence our actions on these matters going forward thank you . If you would kindly send me your number via a pm i would be glad to have the store contact you and see what we can do to win back your valued custom. thank you happy golfing

I'd like to add that I have always received great service from my local AG, East Kilbride. I have spent a fair bit of money there over the last few years and I feel like they treat me very well.

I echo that with Coventry, always priced matched, ordered items in for me, recently my Mizuno bag, all my MP-T4 wedges, do me deals on my balls, couldn't ask for any more

I use AG in Northampton and in Milton Keynes. Always had good service and always matched prices for me. I find some of their prices in store very ambitious, perhaps they are hoping people will just impulse buy and not check prices elsewhere. It may work sometimes but I think a lot of people may be put off, not ask and go elsewhere.

As a retail owner for many years you always displayed the majority of your items at either a SRRP or a margin you knew you need to work to so as top cover your costs, the sell cheap and more outlook on things doesn't work in all sectors and if you set your stall out that way and you are working to high turnover with minimum margins and then business slows down, your finished and gone very quickly!

I found that my regular customers who recognised the service we gave, the help and advice that was offered and more importantly, saw the latest range of items on display, were happy to pay a little more than an invisible internet only store.

Its a fine balance, there's those that respect that costs are high to provide a retail service and there are those that want everything for nothing, you'll never please everyone.
