So our nearest new AG is now in Canterbury, so, I've popped down there with a view to purchasing a new Bushnell v2 or v3.

I double check that they will Internet match but they don't have a v3 in stock, their v2 is in stock at £229. So, I show them on my ipad that I can get a v3 at £209 and a v2 at £198. "Sorry, but the v2 isn't in stock at your Internet place so I can't match their price" " but the v3 is in stock there but you don't have one!" So I ask if there is any room for some leeway, but no there isn't. I was also going to buy some balls and maybe a few other odds and sods but decided to order from the online place who originally advertised the best price and so deprive AG of my hard earned cash!

They let me walk out with my £300 firmly in my wallet because the computer said no!

good on you for walking, how many would have just said ok and bought anyway as they were already there!

I only use AG for balls/tee's if needed urgently.

Strangely I had the opposite of this

Mrs bought my Bushnell Z6 from AG, told them the cheapest she could get it for and they didnt verify it, just agreed to match it. Turned out she'd misunderstood the price Id said I could get it for and had managed them to match at £40 lower than the cheapest price available lol

Heard of something very similar - I think with a (Cleveland?) wedge/wedges.

So at least there's some consistency!

I understand the policy, if they are to price match then who you are expecting them to match with should have stock and be genuine. I just don't understand the policy of standing hand on hips and just saying that you can't do it it and its in the small print. Annoyingly, if they had up to date stock then the v3 was a ridiculously low price and I would have snapped it up!

In today's economic climate and it being a new store I would have thought goodwill would be paramount!

I rarely use AG anymore except for clothing as they do have some decent some stuff. I have three stores locally and to be honest none of them ever seem to be that switched on in terms of customer care

They wouldn't price match a Nike shirt for me today as the one on there site was a different colour to the one I have bought pictured below. I bought it anyway as I have been after it for a while with no luck.

It's the one Rory is wearing... The one on there site was purple.

Are you sure your Mrs isn't smarter at haggling than you?

Females can smell a "bargain" a mile off!

So in the end they lost a £300 sale plus any future sales to you. Then you've shared your experience on a golf forum so they get yet more bad press. & all because the store manager couldn't use some common sense.
Good on you for walking away.

Pretty well summed up

I have no such problems with AG in Coventry. Priced matched everything for me to date, Mizuno Wedges, Mizuno Bag, Callaway Balls and more.. and even though on 1 occasion the website said no, I then went down to the store and the manager said yes.

Some things they have to order in also and still price match for me.

AG Coventry have all my business

To add although I had a bad experience today they do normally price match for me and I will continue to use them. I'm not jumping on the AG is crap bandwagon as they are normally good for me.

It seems a complete lottery with which shop and staff you get with AG pretty much the same as any large retail group.
Seems pretty short sighted on the managers part.

Have a look at a snooper half the price of a bushnell recommended by a couple of others and I have not had any problems in the month I've had an SLR500.

It's clearly down to the management of individual stores I think. I've always found AG Clydebank to be great in terms of customer service, they gave me a £100 quid discount on my irons when under no great obligation to do so.

It really does depend on the management of the AG store. Ive had 2 incidents this year with Maidstone once with shoes the other with wedges. Both times they refused to uphold a deal in store that they had on their own website!

Wont ever use AG again locally. However the online golf website which is also run by them never had issues with.
