I don't know how good some other mats are. But as we are off mats all winter I regard the Spurk as well worth the money compared with a lot of other golf kit for the benefits it gives me in winter play.

My club trialled winter mats last winter, with much concern from the members. They bought a load of the Powerhouse mats (if they arent they certainly look the same) for members to take for that round and return when finished. Quite a few, like me, bought a Spurk as we just didnt get on with the supplied mats, but strangley about 160 went missing.....
The difference in the course come spring and summer was amazing to a point where when they said last week we were going to mats due to the course being so wet (and members wanting to play) there was very little moaning.
I don't see us not using mats in the winters now.

My winters aren't conducive to playing at all.

Here in NEW England, it's largely a May through October game.
Some may start in April, but it's pretty messy.
Some play into November, but they freeze doing it.

I saw the little mat thing on television, though.
Never saw it at my club.
Then again, that doesn't mean that we don't have them.
I don't see everything that goes on.

We've been using winter mats for some years. The difference in the course is remarkable. Especially in the spring. One or two still complain but so many appreciate the course quality they are not going to disappear any time soon.

I freely admit to being one who was reticent about using them, however I and all of the membership have seen the difference they make to the following playing season as well as allowing the course to be open for play during the (very) wet winters.
I think they will be a permanent winter requirement going forward, and don’t see why you wouldn’t now own your own especially as it seem many get attached to a certain one they can’t hand back as they should;)

Most of the courses around me go to mats over the winter. I bought one of these last year, it’s excellent. Takes a couple of rounds to get used to but is really easy to use, and fits in your back pocket to carry. I don’t use the rubber tee, just drop the ball in the hole, it’s absolutely fine.

I tried this one out a few years ago, still have it in a box somewhere. I thought it was pretty decent for fairway woods etc. Problem I had was with wedges, I quite often would just slide under the ball and pop the ball up really short. A guy at my old club used to carry 3 different mats for different situations.....then the mgr made a new rule you could only carry one mat.

No issues with wedges really, maybe the odd short one but that can happen with or without a mat 😁.

Do get an insane amount of spin on wedge shots though so ball frequently drops and stops using this.
