I thought it may be a good idea for members to compile a list of golfing terminology.
As a relative newcomer to the game I still come across terms and phrases I'm unaccustomed to. Maybe a list would make things easier for newcomers and more experienced alike.

If it's a bad idea I'll apologise now and bow gratiously while admin delete the thread!

Starting at the beginning we'll start with the letter A

A

Airshot - a phenomenon experienced when a golfer addresses the ball, swings and completely misses the ball. Much to the disguised amusement of his/her playing partners.

Adidas - Manufacturer of surprisingly affordable golf attire such as polo shirts and shoes.

Albatross - The term used to describe a score of 3 under par. Americans term this as a Double Eagle (may be confused as a double birdie!!!) :D

Approach Shot - a short or medium shot played to the putting green or pin.

Ace - American term for a hole in one

hate to spoil the thread which looks like fun, but I think the following would cover most things comprehensively, and take less time to compile. So hope it helps you Basher, and anyone else who desires to learn some of the games less acustomed terminologies.

Well, it can happen to the best of us. My clean sweep of Callaway woods have been "infiltrated" by a Taylor Made.

Know what you mean about the midweek blues, I can't wait for the crap weather to subside so I can get some bloody punters in.

It could be worse MWJ- you could be selling motorcycles

Spare a thought for us poor fools who have just shelled out for the membership of a new club, have booked their first tee off slot for this Saturday and who are spending every available minute between now and then learning everything they can about the dark art of climatology.

My best guesstimate so far is that I could be looking at being on the first tee with a snow shovel , slathered in factor 40 suncream with a pakamac while sitting in a boat!

Aye. You've got to have a sense of humour for this game.
