Almost at the end of the season - handicaps / thoughts

Goal not met. Initial goal not to shoot less than 30 pts stableford in any round through the year. Failed in Florida, twice.
2nd goal, get to single figures. Failed. Have played off 12 (ok, 11 to 13) for 15 years. Every year similar hopes.
But, short game better, iron play better, driving better, swing better, putting as good as ever. Mental conditioning (bottle) = worse.

Hmmm.

Maybe next year.

Basher, I'm like you, haven't moved much, disappointed but not too downhearted.
Getting to 23 last year was an achievement for me so didn't expect to go much further, but afer a few lessons felt I had really improved and have been hitting with a lot more confidence and consistency. Putting also better than it was, and disappointed that this hasn't been reflected in scores, but changes to the course (9 new holes, new SSS)seem to have made it harder for me to score. Made 40 points recently which is best on new course, but haven't cracked 90 for many months. Just hoping what I think of as current good form doesn't desert me before I clock up something decent!
best of luck to all for rest of season

Started season on 14.9 now down to 13.6 so nearly at my target of taking at least 2 shots off my playing handicap.

Overall fairly pleased with the season but losing in the club knockout singles semi by 1 hole after missing 3 short putts to win holes was hard to take and Saturdays 3rd in Captains Day after dropping 3 shots on stroke indexes 17 and 18 and missing out by 2 shots was a sore one to take.
But very happy to have been in contention in some of the big comps of the season.

As this was my first 'season' for many a year, I have finally managed to post 3 scores for a handicap (89,88 and 83) and the 88 had a 9 and three 7's.........and as I post I am desperately waiting for my Handicap to be decided.
The S.S.S. of the course is 66 so hopefully it will be in the range of 17-20 (i think).
Getting a handicap was one goal and the other is perhaps a bit adventurous and that is to break 80 before the end of the season

Still I can hope

Not played in as many medals as I would have liked, however I have got my handicap down from 11.4 to 10.1.

Have played well in the main, striking the ball well and short game is getting tidy. Putting has been the main problem. Averaging 33 putts per round, more often than not nearer 36.

Disappointed I didn't make it to single figures this year, however I am happy with the direction my game is going. Planning to work hard over the winter, a few final tweaks to the swing and intense short game work. Roll on next year!!!!!!!!

Started the year at 14.9, target was 12.4 (ie category 2). Currently 13.1, so one good comp this month will do it! Also second in the money stakes with the group of 12 of us who regularly get out. Not yet got my name on the clubhouse boards or a hole in one, but I'm working on it. 4 new courses to add to my list so far for the year.

Best of all I've had great fun with some great mates. Love it.

down to 5.1 from 5.8 and that has included quite a few away open efforts. Still a month to go though so here's hoping for lower....

Mixed year realy started off at 8.8 and wanted to get down to 7 but have had to cope with a dickie hip most of the season so i think i have done well to stay at 9.

lets just hope we all have a better summer next year.

Failed in my target which was to avoid going upto 13. Started at 12.2 and now 12.6. Used to be single figures.

Went for a lesson when I hit 12.5 and now am much happier with my game. Been in buffer zone (low 80's) 9 out of 10 rounds since my lesson averaging 35.9 putts. Earlier in season was averaging 32 putts shooting mid 90's.

Overall much happier with my game and just looking for the putter to come alive.

Its been a great golfing year for me.

Started out playing off about 22-23 being a nomad player. I then joined a great local members club & now have a handicap of 17 calculated on a course that I believe is a real challenge.

Over the summer, I have had the pleasure of playing 3-4 times a week in various roll ups and of course met some great people.

Highlights :

- Can consistently drive over 250 yards.
- My short game with wedges saves me all the time !!
- my putting has improved immensely & I feel confident every time I get over the ball.

Lowlights

- Still suffering with the mid irons. to many tops and the occasional s***k.

Next challenge....get down to 12 !!

My aim this year was to hit the ball in the air and in the general direction I'm aiming!

This I have achieved however it has highlighted how bad my chipping and putting actually are so it's short game lessons all winter for me.

Still haven't broke 100 and couldn't care less only had a scorecard in my hand 4 times in the last 4 months

Started the season at 7.2 now off 4.6 so generally quite happy but I've let a few really good rounds go, one I was 2 under gross through 9 then hit 3 balls out of bounds (it was extremely windy mind).
Having 2 lessons a month staring last week now, still feel I've got a lot left in the tank. This time next year I'm hoping to be off 2.

Impressive shooting. Well done. thats 36.11% reduction.

Let's face it, the biggest disappointment for all of us has probably been the weather.

AliB

True.

Hmmm....started the season at 12 as I have been for a few years, not playing regularly over that time, and really wanted to try and achieve single figures as I beleive I have it in me, if only once.

Early medals were a disaster, and slipped up to 12.5 (13) - putting too much pressure on myself I think, but have now hit some form, firstly taking 38pts to come down to 11.8, and then shooting a 77Gr (Nett65) in a 2nd Div Open last weekend at my own tight course, which has taken me to 11.0 dead.

Playing tonight in a 1/4 Final of the main Club Knockout, and playing our lowest H/Capper of 1.2, so I may need some luck, altho I suspect he wont be relishing giving me 10 :-)

Have also played well generally this year, socially etc, so I think a couple more good comps, and then perhaps a winter of short game practise, and I may just achieve Singles next year.
Not written it off yet for this year, but time now against me. :-/

Hey ho.

Thanks Ken_A I never thought about it like that, so my target is 50% next year. Was thinking of changing to some cavity backs to help with my miss hits as I'm currently using Mizuno MP-32's.

with only one more medal to go it's not looking good for getting the handicap down :( (and looks like +0.1 today but at least I finished the round which is more than the handicap secretary did)

still I have enjoyed very nearly every round  and one I had to abandon when a sudden migraine meant I couldn't even see the ball on the tee)

I've played as often as possible and will continue to do so throughout the winter.

I've played at least one new course each month

I've spent too much, )

I do need to find a way not to lose so many balls though . . . :D

well I started off with my first ever handicap of 18.0 at the start of the year and am now up to 19.5 so playing off of 20. I do however feel I am much improved as a golfer and after this my first season at a club- next year I feel getting down to 10 is a reachable all be it optimistic target, once I have got some lessons and lots of short game practice in over the winter.
