As we are coming near the end of the season how have we all done. I had planed on playing to my season start (May) handicap of 28 (could only play steadily to this by June), then getting down to 22. Currently I am 24.5 . Things are not looking good as my mid season form has dissapeared into history. I have played in the mid teens for some roll ups - thought 22 would be no bother.

So far I have had a handicap deduction of 12.5% best so far 12.86% (24.4), whats your percentages - I want %'s as it is best a better measure then how many shots.

Had a good season so far, I have gone from 14 to 9.8 so 30% reduction so far.

Still have a few medals to play so might with a bit of luck get to my target of single figures by the end of the year.

Best season ever.
Managed to achieve 100% of my targets.

Target 1 - Enjoy every round - Achieved
Target 2 - Don't worry about any score - Achieved
Target 3 - Don't play in any medals - Achieved
Target 4 - Make it through the season with actually getting lumbered with a handicap - Achieved.

Result.

For me it's about winding down, not winding myself up over numbers. That's what I go to work for.

H/C not moved as much as i would have liked probably for two reasons.
(i) not played enough, certainly a lot less than this time last summer due to weather mainly
(ii) New bats in mid summer, still getting used to them, I sometimes wonder if things would have progressed better if I had stuck with the other clubs as they are far more forgiving than the Mizzy's. Not complaining as they are superb clubs just wondering.

As a complete contradiction to above, I played crap on forum day then shot a gross 77 on Sat ?????????? "stupid game"!!!!!!

Started on 11.5 ended up on 11.6.

The improvement is that to get 11.5 I put in a best card of 15 over SSS. But that's another story.

Since then, although not in a "white tee" qualifying comp, I've broken 80 a few times and have found a few yards off the tee, improved my direction noticeably and got back into half decent chipping and putting.

Am I happy? Yes......
Do I think my h'cap is fair? Yes.....but I didn't think I'd need to play non-stop for months, practice 3 times a week and spill blood around the practice ground just to get where some silly arsed secretary deems is the correct interpretation of some CONGU bollo***
Do I want to get lower? No flippin' way. I don't want to spend all this time chasing impossible dreams, I just want to play.

Down 1 shot from 10.4 to 9.4 so I'm happy enough!

A few moments of better luck and it could've been better, but that's golf isn't it!

i stopped scoring for the last 2 months as i was putting too much pressure on trying to make 14 pars to account for my bad holes, now i just play for a laugh and to see what i capable of

Started the new season full of hope as I had won a few trophiews over the winter period, started at 9.2, drifted up to 9.5, the first week ever and it was inspiration enough for a round to get me back down to 8.9, then a fai few buffer zone games and at the moment am residing at 8.8, not the 7 I was looking for but still a month of qualifiers left weather permitting and im lower than I was at the start of the year, if only by a handful of points of a shot.
Club championship in a fortnight and I am a couple of points shy of the max 8 handicap enterence stipulation, this week is probably going to be the most important comp of the year as I set a target of playing in it at the start of the year.

Got down from 22 to 18, which was my target. Not played anywhere near as much as I planned due to the weather, work and my dodgy knees! I'm probably only going to get a few more rounds in before heading to the range for the winter.

On reflection H/C dropped from 20 to 19 not as big a reduction as i wanted. Unfortunately i played 3 or 4 great rounds early in the season under winter rules and therefore non qualifying competitions.
Managed to win 2 saturday stableford competitions, one sunday stapleford and in the last two monthly medals i was class runner up.
Also go to the semi final of the individual club matchplay.

So happy enough with what was in essence my first full season playing in weekly club competitions.
Need to reduce the number of wayward shots and i believe the handicap can be reduced to 14/15 this time next year.

Started the season with 27 H,cap now down to 21, season goal was to get down to 18. Am playing ok just need that little bit more consistancey and fingers crossed i will get there. I know i have it in me has i have been breaking 90 quite regularly, will keep trying.

Regards

RB

nothing gained or achieved for me this season, the first time i seemed to not improve, still the same h/p when it started tho, thats something.

A total disaster re goals vs achievements. Wanted to get down to 10 (from 13) but now off 15. Wanted to get a consistent swing. Still error prone and not repeatable. Wanted to break old habits robbing me off distance (reverse pivot, change/loss of height during the swing, poor weight transfer). Still only hitting a 7 iron 135-140. Wanted a sharper short game. Can be good but generally streaky.

Lost in the 2nd round of the club knockout. Lost my unbeaten record in inter club matches (four ball better ball).

Despite all this I still enjoy the game and nothing will ever beat the thrill of being out in the open air wondering if this is the day when it all clicks. Even if it doesn't, does it really matter when all is said and done.

Genuinely disappointed handicap wise. Started the season at 6.4, then got down to 5.8 early in the season but slowly I’ve been going up, now at 6.6. I’ve played about 20 odd medal rounds so it’s not too bad. Got to be happy with my match play performances though, as I’m in the final of the senior’s club championship and I’m in the semi final of the summer foursomes.

Playing a lot of golf but I’m having one or two holes that screw things up. Still getting the odd pull hook that spoils my score and even though I know how it’s happening it’s difficult to guard against. I genuinely believe there’s a near par medal round in me and on occasions I’m hitting some good quality shots.

Medal tomorrow Wednesday………Onwards and upwards.

Started well enough got my handicap and was looking to move on from there. Frustratingly did not move on from there with the odd blow up hole wrecking some potentially good rounds. At times I have put in some great front nines and some great back nines but never that elusive great 18. As such I have been playing to my handicap most weeks but never scoring quite well enough for a cut.
Overall, not bad for my first full season as a member but have not quite fulfilled my expectations. Still, my course was open every day last year with no Winter greens or preferred lies so hopefully season is a long way from over for me.

I had many hopes and aspirations for this season.

Reading some of the stories above about dropping several shots off handicaps makes me a tad jealous.

Mine has raised by .2, just trying to play to my h/c seems nigh on impossible this season. However, I feel I know where I've gone wrong and aim to iron out my faults during the closed season by honing my swing and fairway play. I aim to spend some time down the range and utilise the services of a pro several times to groove myself into a much improved swing.

Not despondant really as I see improvement inevitable for next season.

Chin up all those who haven't done as well as they thought, there's always next season guys!
