I don't think with things like waterproofs and shoes you should compromise providing you can afford to doso. I'm not a GG fan and think there are better and cheaper options but handicap and ability shouldn't come into the equation at all when deciding what you want to wear to keep you dry.
Clubs on the other hand I think need to be considered more carefully. I consider myself a reasonable mid-handicapper (with aspirations of improving) but I would never look at a set of blades as I could never hit them consistently enough to do them justice and they would hinder my scoring and not improve it. Similarly a set of SGI's are going to fly too high and look too bulky especially around the green to suit my game or eye. I think you need to take some degree of advice on club selection at times but everyone is free to make their own choices. You pays your money....

Still cant hit my irons aswell as I should be, driving and putting is ok though.

GG Jackets are worth the extra money imo. Don't think the pants are though - even though they are top quality. My jacket and pants are 10 years old and still in great nick.
Be aware of sizing though (I'm XL in GG but L, or even M in most other brands) - check them out first - and have some practice swings to make sure there's freedom of movement with no restriction.

I shot under par over a dozen times with a set of clubs that you can buy on eBay for £8 (including a 2-iron!)
And you've also been in the trees a lot with a driver who's recommended retail price is nearly £300.00

I think buying things like proofs you can buy name, buy smart, or buy junk.

Buy name, GG because of the designer tag, GG hasnt been around that long in relation to some of the other brands, and is fairly over priced imho due to its designer status.
Buy smart, something like a proquip suit, been around for years, worn by some of the best players, great quality, and you can pick up a complete suit if you look around for around the £100 mark.

me personally, iven the option to spend £200-300 on a GG suit, or £100 on a proquip gortex one, id opt for proquip every time, then use the £200+ ive saved and either look at something new and shiney, new lessons, more greenfees etc etc

I disagree. There are a number of people out there who buy what they consider the best for them. Even if they have the money. I wouldn't spend £300 on a set of golfing waterproofs, when £100 will do the job and be comfortable. However I would on walking water proofs, as i'd want ripstop for when i'm trudging through woodland and gorse, but only if there were non suitable at the £100 marker.
